Love it! Looks even better then when you posted it in September. I have never seen nickel tone like that. I would be proud to have this coin in my collection!

That is still one amazing 25 in such a high grade. Thanks for posting it..
Would also still like to hear how the 5 cent experts here would comment on the toning and a valuation with that toning on that rare nickle..

Beautiful coin, nuemistman. I have been fascinated with nickels for over 50 years now. Toning like this is seldom seen. I would be proud to have it in my collection!

Thanks folks, for seeing the beauty in this coin, hard to capture it in photos. as far as value is concerned, the coin would bring a small premium for toning.Condition is something else. The nickel is damaged, the toning would be considered environmental damage.Hard to believe eh? On the plus side ,after studying this coin, for a while, I would give it a safe grade of EX Fine++ to maybe AU-50.There does seem to be mint luster flash under all that color, you can definitely see it in the details, anyway!feel free to cop the image if you would like to use it as a avatar or whatever,I don`t mind,I`m just happy to share it.

quote.."the toning would be considered environmental damage".
That's exactly what I was thinking and was hoping that the nickle experts would add their comments...but I guess that they are shy to...
Nickles seem to be at their best when they have an original bright "fresh from the roll" luster and look.

Send this coin to PCGS and it would come back in a body bag as altered surface or something similar.

Thanks for the permission! I will use your nickel as an avatar. Now anyone know how I can change my CCF avatar to this nickel? I'm not too good when it comes to technology. My new printer is still in its box and it's 22 months old, but with a 5 yr warranty. It's one awesome nickel, it's a shame it would get a body bag.

I once found a dime that was stuck in the middle of a roll of pennies that had been unopened for sixteen years that had developed some similar toning. At first I thought it was a silver dime until I read the date, 1979. I wonder if long-term contact with copper can cause this phenomenon to occur?
