Darn, those are hard to grade. I thought I figured my coin out, then I started comparing it to the ones on heritage. And now I'm lost Here is my coin. the fields are pretty much in pristine condition and the luster is awesome: I want to see this as weakly struck and not wear on "LIBERTY" and the buffalo's head and shoulder, this one is almost identical: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...2&lotNo=3273or this: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...0&lotNo=7675How would you grade it? and please guess the grade before you take a look at the examples I posted... thanks Edited by epikur 11/05/2013 4:56 pm

No need for frustration, it is uncirculated. I'm not enough of an expert to assign a number, but it definitely has no wear I can see. You are correct, LIBERTY is weakly struck this is not wear. Hope this helps.

It almost looks like a tired obverse die (with a die clash) paired with a fresh reverse die. I'll guess AU50ish?

I think AU-53.
Isn't the buffalo missing some details on the head? That looks like wear.

well...here's what I see. looks like a weak strike or worn die. based on the flow lines i'd be more inclined to go with worn die. the reverse appears to show some rub on the shoulder/leg. I was going with AU58 or MS62 but I think with the rub. I would lean more to AU58

Hence my frustrations...A weak strike and/or worn die makes it extremely difficult for me who's not a buffalo expert, to grade these...

Full horn with maybe just a touch of flatness from less than a full strike. Split tail. Obverse is from a well used die.
Can't quite see if there's a rub on the hip bone. If so, I'd say AU-58. If not, I'd say MS-63 with an outside shot at a -64. But no higher because of the obverse die and a weakish strike.

I think I see a little bit of wear on the cheekbone and buffalo's hip. I will go with AU-58 but if the luster is as good as you say it is, it may be market graded MS. The coin looks like it was struck from very tired dies.

I'm in agreement that "Liberty" did NOT get that way through wear, but too many other high points on the coin strike me as having slide marks. I'd have to go with AU 55-58.

comparing your pics to the two you linked, it seems like there is a touch of wear on many of the high points especially the buff's head...AU 58 ...maybe more pics/different lighting prove it MS
