Quote:But I still don't got the album yet. I did get my Ike dollar one and almost completed it It's hard to get the coins inside though... Sounds more like you have a Folder. Remember there is a big difference between an Album and a Folder.

Quote:I did get my Ike dollar one and almost completed it I know this strays from the original Lincoln topic, but I have to show my approval. Quote: When I place the coins over the hole. I have to push them in because they won't go right in. It's hard because I don't want to damage the proofs... Work the edge and be patient. I never had a real problem getting mine into my Dansco.

Going through box after box isn't boring for me but then I like looking for wheats and error/varieties also. You'll be surprised at how great a collection you can come up with. I sat each date on my desk and was constantly upgrading each as I went.

So I am just starting a Lincoln Cent collection. I am doing the 59-09 album. What is the best way to get BU specimens?

@stlspidey, From what people repied and my thoughts. I would say pull the best ones from circulation you can get. Buy the 2009's because I can't even find mine You can try searching boxes but rolling them up is the boring part. When you get 50 post you can post a want list on CCF for the dates you want to buy. I'm going to try that as well. Update about the Album.I should be getting it tomorrow and will be popping the coins into the holes

i completed my 1959 - 2013 folders by buying $75.00 worth of pennies at the bank and CRH through them. it took a few months, but I completed the folders with nice looking coins, and I didn't pay more than face for any of them. however it was very time consuming, but finding the last few pennies was a great feeling.

The best coins are always in the mint sets and many still are. Some dates like the '68 has to be found in rolls because mint set coins are spotted but other dates like the '88-D the worst examples in mint sets are nicer than the best examples in rolls.
Collecting requires effort and learning and cents are a great coin to learn the ins and outs. One of the best things about this set is it is the only modern set which can be completed in Gem for a very modest outlay. You can buy a complete set retail for about $25 or you can assemble a Gem set with a lot of work, learning, and shoe leather and very low cost.

I've got dime and quarter folders I assembled this way and really treasure them. I've actually managed to find the complete quarter set in AU-50 and better except a couple XF's. All the coins are beutiful and well made and lots of them after 1996 when I started this set are chBU or even Gem. The dime set is pretty too. There's a lot of satisfaction in completing these sets and there's a lot to learn. Congratulations on your set. I'm sure nice examples of many dates are tough.

1981-S type 2 proof can be a little spendy.

Haha true @jbuck.
The only expensive proof I think is the 1979 Type 2 Proof.
I did almost complete my nickel folder from boxes. I completed my dime from it. The only nickel I need is 1989 D. Anyone got it? lol

The 79 is relatively cheap and you can find them for around ten bucks.
