I have what I believe is a 1940 Steel penny. I was looking for some information on it since I can't seem to find any info online about it at all. It is magnetic, I checked after a local coin shop I called said it could of been dipped in acid but that putting a magnetic would disprove this.
Any information would help, thanks!

Welcome to the CCF Completed!
Pictures are huge with the CCF, as we have many experts in many different areas of Numismatics in our family. Sounds like a 1943 Steel Cent but pics are needed to be definitive.

I see a couple possibilities. First is that it is an altered 1943. Since the steel planchette had not yet been conceived for cents in 1940 it certainly is not an error coin in that sense. While the Mint may have been producing coins on similar blanks in 1940 for other countries it is pretty unlikely (but not impossible) one of these got mixed in.
The second is that it was plated. I think (not sure though) that nickel plating a copper coin may make it slightly magnetic, depending on the amount of nickel used.
Regardless of whether these explanations or some other is the truth, pictures would really help.

to CCF. Good pics of the front/back and edge would help as well as a weight. John1

When you are stating it is magnetic. Does it stick to a magnet or is it just moved by a magnet? What sort of magnet are you using?

Strongly magnetic (coin JUMPS to the magnet) or weakly magnetic (magnet affects it, may or may not pick it up)?
