What does everyone think? I can't grade these to save my life.

Hopefully someone with a little more experience with these will come along soon to give an expert opinion. I'm calling this one a VF30 based on the lack of detail in the upper part of the wings. However, the talons look strong & there is more detail in the hair than I would expect. Could this be a weak strike?

My initial instinct says XF. I think the strike may be a bit weak; tough to say by the picture, though.

My insticts also screamed XF-40, but would depend on how it looks in hand. So hand it over and I'll tell ya!

I could go along with XF and a weak strike. The detail in George's hair argues for at least that grade. The detail along the leading edges of the wings is lacking, but there seems to be pretty good detail in the feathers on the breast of the eagle...sends mixed messages to me, at least. Is this a weak strike, or is there more wear on the coin that can be readily seen in the photo? I don't think it gets to AU.

Maybe I'm just feeling generous but I'd call this an AU coin. True, there isn't real sharp detail in George's hair or the eagle's wings, but I don't think early Washington quarters are known for sharp strikes. Heck, even the early proofs often had soft details. For me the better indicator is luster and this coin still appears to have quite a bit especially on the reverse. I couldn't guess whether the scuffs and hairlines would be enough for a "bodybag" grade from a TPG, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this coin in a PCGS AU50 holder. I have an NGC-slabbed '32-S graded MS-61. I'll post a photo if I get a chance....

Here's my '32-S, graded MS-61 by NGC. With this coin as my reference point for Mint State, I'm pretty comfortable calling Tights' coin an AU.

Hello everyone I'm new around here. Are there any well known die characteritics of the 1932s besides the die line above the "D" in dollar? The coin I bought has a die crack extending thru the us in pluribus. Thanx

Die cracks are numerous are rarely create extra value on the coin, unless on proof sets or Morgan's.

Thanx Vaslin my concern was more about the diagnostics to authenticate rather than the value...plugged down 425 for what looks like an au58 specimen I do wonder how prevalent the fakes are of this date
