The thing that worries me lately is that someone trolling this site could figure out who I am and target my house. A typical thief isn't likely to stumble on my collection, but if they know it's there, all bets are off. Otherwise I've never considered SDB to be worth it.

Similar, except I have a 9mm and a .380 handy, plus a big dog who barks at ANYTHING outside.

Our own house is a very good place to hide all our investments/collections until (God forbid) something happens .....

I have a tiny dog that barks at anything outside (sounds bigger than it is). Unfortunately, as soon as that anything comes inside, the mutt pegs it. I do plan to invest in a metal baseball bat though (They only cost like £10 and the cliche is enough to let any intruder know you're up for turning their face into a picasso - using it would be a last resort, they clap you in irons for proactive defense).

In the UK, we dont worry about guns being held to a family members head. Hand guns are rarely used, its usually knives or nothing (though I fear a serated knife a lot more than a small bore handgun). Anyway, a good loud shout would deal with the type we get round here. Native UK robbers are pretty smart - if someone knows they're there, they get out as quick as possible so no-one can size them up for the report.

Now I'm worried that if I go to the United States, I'll get barked at, then shot at...

My plan was always to go for the eyes, but I know, deep inside, that I'd really just try to hide and probably pee myself if someone actually broke in.

Home Safe - hidden in plain sight - and yes I have SDB's as well. Nothing goes to the bank deposit box that I may need to access on a weekend, so mostly only as an offsite storage, mostly papers, records and some rare stuff I'm not planning on ever selling.

There are those that watch coin stores and follow people after. If you go to one in the USA and they see plates on your car from Canada, crooks full well know that once your back home, nothing will ever be found if your robbed here.
And shot at too. Why this entire country is full of people just waiting to shoot Canadians.
In reality your chances of getting shot at, robbed, etc. just because your in the USA is less than winning the lotterys here.

It just depends where you are. Stay out of a ghetto and the chances are basically non existent.

No safety deposit box.

Just a few safes at 2 locations.

I keep my roll hunting cash from dumping and for future pickups in my safe at home with some coin tubes full of silver halves from roll hunting. Space is an issue as they have to share with my important documents and watches and bullion.

My albums which I need to access regulary to upgrade when possible are "hopefully" hidden out of sight.

I have 3 safes off site which house my key comic books and sports cards and other watches and firearms.

When I opened my account at Chase a few years ago they had me sign up for their VIP plan which meant the more money I owed them the more benefits I got (go figure) One of the perks was a free safe deposit box but I wasn't collecting at the time. Since I am a responsible member of society and pay off my debts I quickly moved out of their bracket of money owed but didn't want to cause a rift as they are my main pickup bank for boxes which means I have to have $1500 everyday in checking and $300 in savings which I guess is a good thing if I ever need to bail and make a run for it I have a rainy day fund.

Most of my slabbed stuff, anything of value over $100 that I'm not flipping, all my junk silver, lots of other stuff. I go there with regularity, probably once a week.

I don't have an SDB. I have a couple of safes and some hidey holes. More importantly, I own guns and have dogs..

The original question alone makes me pause. But the fact that people are divulging some great tips for potential thieves has me a little bit concerned.

At present I only own one coin for which I have paid over $100. Most of my coins are in albums which I enjoy looking at. I trust the security of a bank but the risk of a home invasion or fire compared to the satisfaction of being able to enjoy my coins at my convenience makes the choice to enjoy my coins at home the best decision to make for me.
