Looks like a two-bidder war. I can't say it's reached "ludicrous" levels yet - that's strong 64DMPL money, and below 65DMPL. Factoring in what I know about digital coin photography, I think the coin has a pretty good shot at 64DMPL and a remote chance at 65.

So, yeah, overenthusiastic and I think someone's going to be disappointed, but it's not yet something we all point and laugh at.

Because this will grade PL or DMPL. If PL, has to be a 66 PL to be in the 600 value range. If DMPL, 65 is $1280. 66 is the 4K range.

Generally for me, I call most coins on ebay PL, unless it is super clear that a coin is a DMPL.

I like to play it extra safe.

I would call this 64DMPL so this is kinda overpriced but in the end its really about what the coin is worth to the buyer.

It's one of the places where bidders really go nuts on ebay, because far too few collectors truly understand what constitutes a DMPL coin. Especially if you've never seen one, you won't believe what "headlights" they are. Reflected light is literally painful in a DMPL.

And if you've seen a bunch of them, you learn the subtle hints which can be seen in less-than-perfect imagery. Me, I think this one makes DMPL. If I had the disposable income to throw $600 at an educated guess, I might have been tempted. There's no denying it's a gorgeous coin either way.

IMHO, the photo angles helped make the sale ... Great coin, nevertheless!

I don't spend that much money on a raw coin.

This reply made me chuckle aloud. It's not that I can't appreciate exercising caution when buying rare coins. It's that in thinking about this, I've rarely purchased a slabbed coin for more than $600. To each his own ...

My taste it seems is just the opposite!
