It has always been hard to argue with them ... Anyway, although this is not the field of Swamperbob, maybe he can get more informations about those (I hope so).
I dont know that type enough to figure out if it's correct or not (irregular denticles maybe, but I suppose it's normal on some types) All I can say is that as usual, your pictures are perfect to see details !

ebay "picks on" things that are reported. If no-one reports bogus listings, then the bogus listings stay up. As for whether or not your coins are genuine... the second one looks fine to me, the first I have my doubts about. Half a gram is a little too lightweight, especially considering it has almost no wear. Further, I'm seeing what looks like split reeds, over near the right side of the edge pic. I suspect your reporter is seeing these things too, and reported this coin - and perhaps any other Indochinese piastres you might be selling at the same time, on the grounds that if one is fake, then they probably all are.

Quote: Half a gram is a little too lightweight, especially considering it has almost no wear. Half a gram is not very much and the coin could still be genuine. there are two issues...the accuracy of the scale being used to weigh the coin and the Weight Tolerances that the producing mint worked within. Re the scales...often the small electronic scales we collectors use are not particularly accurate. Krause and many other catalogs do not publish the tolerances( where known) for coin weights. Most catalogs only publish the book weight. With 17th century luigino this sees a huge variation; Krause lists the should-have-been-weight but many of these small coins were debased at the mint and the weight can vary from the catalog weight over a full gram. Even today there is a weight difference between coins as they come out of the press. These days the differences are very minor ( and for most of us immeasurable) however in the early 20th century the weight variation could be as much as half a gram. That said, I know of only one coin where the tolerances, weight variation, has been published. {but that may well be just because of my collecting focus}. It was the Rome mint Maria Theresa thalers and what is known is the weight for those varies from 28.07 - 28.14 grams ( the official weight should have been 28.06 grams). Some how these days people seem to have forgotten that any manufacturing process is not perfect!

I didn't noticed the split edge on the top, but it's indeed strange.
Anyway, my cheapo electronic scale is half broken (I'm missing the last digits)... I'd be glad if someone could point me to a not-too-expensive and quite-accurate electronic scale :)

The reverse beading of the first coin looks slightly "off". Second coin no problem, I'd love to own one like it.

The issue some of you mentioned with the edge on the first coin is actually not unusual, and weights are within tolerance considering the coins are not mint state. ebay dropped the ball on these.

Numismat : actually it's not ebay, it's the guy checking the coin :) As Robert says, when there is a doubt it should be in favor of the consignor.

The whole ebay system of judging coins dropped the ball *shakes fist in the air* Sometimes blatant fakes get reported and are not removed, other times genuine coins get taken down without a second thought.
