Ok I have been doing my 7070 for the better part of a decade and I really love the set. I think its my favorite set and I'll be sad when its done. Recently I started doing the Whitman 20th Century type set for my little boy and found that has been a lot of fun to fill. I mean its only 39 slots and no killers (most expensive hole is the T1
Standing Liberty quarter). That set is nearly done with 7 to go. I have done a lot of it as downgrades from my 7070 or coins found from circulation (the washington silver quarter, the
Indian Head cent, the
Buffalo nickel, the
Mercury dime were all pulled from circ). Once done with that I was going to start a second set for my new baby boy so more chances to downgrade.
But it got me really wanting to do a set of my own, so I am thinking of doing a third set when done with the first 2. I was also thinking of doing the Whitman 20th and 21st century album which is 40 slots and even easier than the 20th century with your most expensive coins being your Morgan and
Peace dollars. Heck its another chance for me to have an excuse to own another morgan or
Peace dollar and I am not a big 2x2 fan or stock boxes I like my coins in albums and I don't think I'd ever do those sets because of the unlikely hood of ever finishing them (well I guess the
Peace dollar sets not too bad with the only toughie being the 1928). So its a win win (plus I get other favorites like owning multiple
Standing Liberty quarters and
Walking Liberty halves).
So that got me thinking man it would be cool doing every type set offered. Littleton, Dansco, Whitman, Intercept Shield and I think the US mint has one too. Littleton is interesting as it has a 19th century album and a 20th century type album with them being 57 and 29 coins each so 86 coins more than the 7070. But they also offer just a type album as well, haven't been able to see what are in the three sets. Whitman of course has there 20th century and 20th and 21st century albums which I plan to do one of each. But they also offer a basic type set that is much easier than the 7070. Its only 43 coins and basically is one of each so only one
Half Cent, one large cent, one
Indian Head cent etc. Great set to do for upgrades on the 7070 as if you upgrade say one of your
Seated halves you can just drop it in the basic whitman type set problem is since its just one of each downgrades run out quick.
Then of course there is the intercept shield type set that is actually closest to the 7070 and almost identical except for a few exceptions. The intercept shield adds the 2010-current Lincoln, the 2006-current
Jefferson nickel, and the 2009 quarter. But drops the 4 slots for the commemorative halves, all three bicentenial coins quarter, half and dollar, the commemorative dollar and the silver eagle dollar making its set as 70. The gold page for that one is weird two as it adds the type II dollar coin and the indian head making its page 12 instead of 10. But I am not even sure if I will do the gold page for the 7070 was thinking it would be a great excuse to get maybe get a 2 1/2 dollar indian or a gold dollar though.
So has anyone considering doing every US type set offered. I know the 7070 is the most popular but I have had a lot of fun with the Whitman set.
