The 1881-S was a great year for the Morgan dollar, A lot of coins came out of the mint near proof like. I have a few slabbed in the safe that are 65 PL and 64 PL's. I will probably hold onto them all. I got this one from an auction site where an agency was selling some morgans, and this among others didn't sell, so I offered them a price that was fair and they took it.
Pic looks slightly over sharpened, so I'm guessing every tiny mark looks exaggerated.. (Could be the way the forum software is re-sizing the image on my computer).
A solid 64 for sure. It may have just a little too much noise on the obverse for a 65. Reverse looks PL, obverse looks like cartwheel luster. I'd say it's borderline slabbing material. Depending on what you paid, it would need to be solid 65 or 64PL to be worth submitting. IMHO of course.
Meant to post this last night, but was kinda freaked out about potentially losing my job. Thankfully, I am not getting laid off, but there are a good number of people in my company who are.
Anyway, this is a video of the surfaces of the coin.
