kbbpll Pillar of the Community United States 4233 Posts	Posted 11/21/2013 4:43 pm I purchased this from an auction site a few years ago to fill out my 47ML set. It was marketed as "BU". I paid roughly AU50 trend. I am posting multiple obverse photos in attempts to show how the coin looks in hand. I am trying to hone my grading skills. To my naked eye under good lighting the fields appear almost flawless and the luster mirror-like. If I hold the coin at a low angle to the light, I can barely see the chatter to the right of portrait, and the two scratches next to the chin I need to rotate the coin to just the right angle for one or the other to appear. The chatter on the cheek and jaw is barely visible even under low magnification. On the reverse, the only flaw I can detect is the smudge left of the harp. I'm not trying to get people to overgrade, just trying to get a better understanding of how a professional grader looks at it. High resolution photos seem to bring out every flaw like it's under a microscope. It might not even be MS, so have at it. Report this Post to the Staff

In this thread https://goccf.com/t/163022 none of the opinions went AU, and yet I see very little to distinguish my coin from that one, at least over the internet. Report this Post to the Staff

Based on the quality of the fields, if there is no wear on the high points, I'd be inclined to agree with Dub and say MS-63. Report this Post to the Staff

I've been wondering about it, since I see it on several ICCS coins in my collection that are all MS62. It must take a lot of experience with these to decide what's wear and what isn't. Honestly this is probably the only raw coin I've gotten from "that auction site" where it exceeded my expectations. Report this Post to the Staff
