There was a subtle change in the lettering of United with the "U" changed in design. Here is a pre 2008 reverse example.  And here is an example of post 2008  These are both reverse proof examples but have the change in the desigh of the U. Edited by muddler

TheForce - 1986-2007 the reverse side of a ASE had a "horseshoe"-shaped you in United States. in 2008 the design was changed so the you has a tail on the end, as seen in muddler's pictures. A few 2007 reverses were struck on 2008W Burnished ASE's before the Mint caught on and fixed it with the proper reverse side. |

estedman very nice looking MS 70 ASE ...  The way I like to tell is to look at the "U" in United to tell the difference. I was watching TV and not reading previous post very well. The "U" was explained with out my input ......  Rev of 07  Rev of 08  Edited by GR58

The 'U' is just the most obvious difference. If you really compare then you can easily find a dozen or so changes. Basically the fonts are completely different. Other than the you the most obvious are the S T E and F. On the rev of 08 the S is narrower and shaped different than on the 07. The top of the T is about half as wide as the T is tall. On the 07 it is almost as wide as tall. On the 08 the top two arms of the E and F are the same length, on the 07 the lower arm is shorter. There are also differences in the serifs. The tilde between silver and one is shaped differently.
There were also changes made to the obv in 2008, but they are not important.

Nice coin! Going by what this one sold for I did great.  |
