I try to make at least 1 large scale coin related purchase every year. After last year, I vowed to never make such a purchase at a dealer's shop again. That leaves major shows, coin clubs, craigslist, word of mouth, CCF, garage sales, flea markets, and ebay (as a last resort). I comb CL every day looking for coins, including posting ads. I FINALLY found a CL lead that was selling bulk wheaties. I ended up meeting him on Friday and he brought an album of large cents because I mentioned that is what I collect. He brought an entire album full of large cents. What wheaties? LOL. It is a Whitman 9110, 1793-1857. It was ONLY missing the following: 1793, 1794, 1795, 1796, 1797, 1799, and 1804. He also brought a few extras and a few holes in the album had random Half Cents. In the end I ended up buying the whole LOT for $450. There were a total of 65 coins. MOST of them are low grade with only 5-6 being EF or better. Many of them (about 30) are what I would consider "culls" or damaged worse than just "honest wear". Notables: 1817 N12 with die cracks, 1804 Half Cent crosslet 4 stemless, 1821 (scratch in date), 1846 NICE, 1847 NICE, 1849 NICE, 1857 NICE.

You basically paid for the classic head large cents and everything else was free.

Don't bother playing the lottery. You've just used it all up.

Wow! Nice large cents. I am still hoping to find a Canadian antique seller unfamiliar with American coins... please stop shipping your Red Books here so I can find some bargains.

Although I am quite happy, it's not nearly as good of a deal as you guys think. Almost half of these are at "junk box" status. The classic head cents were the worst of the batch. Also, I was a bit off, the 1809 was missing as well. Either way, I am still going to enjoy these very much!

It's tough to find Classic Heads that are near problem free. Either way, you'll enjoy them I'm sure!
