Has anyone ever seen a John Tyler Presidential dollar struck on a clad planchet, not the typical golden one? I found one in circulation in Las Vegas, and have done some internet research, but have yet to read about that type of error. Any thoughts on it's scarcity or value? Thank you.

About the only way you would see a tyler dollar on a clad planchet would be if it was struck on a quarter planchet. What does it weigh?

It looks like a perfectly formed dollar, with the edge inscription. I took some photos, but it's too dark, or too many reflections. I need to find a way to get more light on it before posting. In the low light, there appears to be a hint of gold color, but it could just be a reflection. To the naked eye, it's identical in color to a new quarter. I will get a good photo, weight it and post the results soon. John1, it just may be plated. Who would have done that and why?

No way, sorry. The Golden Dollar is 26.5mm, the quarter is 24.5... if it was struck and the metal moved THAT far it would be quite thin and the edge lettering couldn't look normal./

Sure it would...
The quarter is 24.26mm in diameter with a thickness of 1.75mm (US Mint data) or a volume of 3237 mm^3 The Golden Dollar is 26.49mm in diameter with a thickness of 2mm or a volume of 4410 mm^3
So there's about 75% of the metal in a quarter planchet as a Golden Dollar so it would be about 1.5mm thick (i.e. THINNER than the quarter)

The most important question here is what does the coin weigh? That will tell us alot more than a picture.
