Forgive me if this is a redundant post, Saw this link on the PSA (Professional Sports Authenticators) site, mostly pertaining to baseball card collecting but there is a lot of wisdom here that can cross easily into coins or other collectables.. http://www.psacard.com/Resources/Gu...ACollection/

I definitely dont do 1, Id have actually finished a set if I did . 5 is overrated to me since storage usually isn't hard to find a few extra feet for a box unless you live in one of those 500 sq feet NYC apartments. Overall though it is good advice, especially about sticking to a budget

Buy authentic/graded collectibles... this article brought to you by Professional Sports Authentication! I wonder if there's some kind of profit motive here? I have had a lot of fun without going anywhere near those ubiquitous ICCS flips, although I do own one low-grade cheapo coin that someone must have sent in for kicks (Trends gives it 40 cents, in the flip).
Avoid becoming a bargain hunter... no way! I guess this is talking about $100 items priced at $20, but I'll keep buying $5 items priced at 10 cents for a long time.

Id forgotten to mention, in fairness to the author keep in mind in the world of Sports Memorabilia certification is MUCH more important than it is for coins.
Making a fake coin takes effort and isn't easy to make it look believable, but anyone can print out a signature and trace it onto a sports item or just eyeball a copy of it.
Youre really asking for it buying autographed anything of value from anywhere but directly from the professional sorts leagues websites uncertified.

I only do number 10 and for me that involves disregarding 1 to 9. Steve

Sort of one of the advantages of the internet. Anyone can write STUFF regardless of who they are, what they are, where they are, etc. You don't need to really know or do anything in order to write about it. Not knocking that story about collecting, and some good, but just another story about collecting.

We don't really do coin grading in the UK so naturally I'm rather sceptical about it. The difference in value attached to a coin based on a subjective grade makes for a system that is ripe for abuse.
