Right now, I have a complete set of State Quarters (P-D)
My daughter is compiling a set as well.(no territories though)
I am 10 away from a full clad proof set, and picked up 20 silver proofs today.
A local coin dealer has a full P-D set for 40.00 in a dansco that I am seriously eyeing up for my son.
And just because I am a Glutton for punishment, the consideration of the gold, platinum, and colorized versions have almost been considered (almost)

I see no problem with what you have mentioned so far. I have one full set P,D,S and Silver in Danscos plus at least one full set still in OGP. We are building 5 LIghthouse ATB albums and one P,D,S and silver ATB Dansco. Ask DNA how many he has. ;)

The only State Quarter sets worth getting multiples of are the silver proofs particularly if silver continues tanking and you can get most of them at melt, except the five 1999 issues that still command a hefty premium above melt values. A P/D set that your son or daughter is putting together from pocket change is not a bad idea.

I would say keep going ... And get as many as you like. Just keep the nice ... better grade ones.

I keep adding 1999 and up quarters, but really think I might have more than I need.

Without a complete count I know I have.
3 - complete two album Dansco sets 1999 to 2008 P,D,S,S
2 - complete P and D Dansco sets 1999 to 2009
1 - 2009 Dansco P,D,S,S
1 - 1999 to 2008 P and D HSN album
1 - after market box set 1999 to 2008 each state on it's own card
1 - Two album postal set 1999 to 2008
1 - 50 coin set in wood box w/ airtites
4 - 50 coin tubes, with two complete sets P and D 1999 to 2009
1 - Dansco date set album w/ clad proofs 1999 to 2009
1 -Dansco ATB P,D,S,S 2010 to date
1 - Dansco ATB P,D 2010 to date
1- Dansco date set 2010 has silver proofs, 2011 has clad proofs,
2012/2013 has business strike "S" mint quarters

Then there is a two row 2X2 box with about 300 coins.

Lastly I have 5 - 50 roll boxes and 2 - 10 roll quarter boxes, at last count
The roll boxes have over 4000 quarters 1999 to date.

So do I think you have to many State/terr/ATB quarters .....no get more ...

Just my opinion but one coin of each metal/strike/mint should do the trick. Everything else saved is just tying up money.....especially the clad stuff.

To answer your thread title question, you can never have too many. Theyre a great underrated series in my opinion

Three green Littleton 1999-2008 date folders filled with Mint-State D-mint Quarters obtained from circulation at face value.

A Dansco 7146 filled with the 1999-2009 Clad Proof Quarters, and a Dansco 8144 filled with the 2004-2008 P-D-S-Silver S Quarters.
I also have all the OGP Proof box/COA's for these two albums.

Complete runs of 1999-2008 Silver Proof Sets and 2004-2008 Silver Proof Quarters Sets all in their OGP, plus extra Sets and unboxed lenses of Silver Proof State Quarters (and a 2008 full Clad Proof Set, courtesy of smokeriderdon )
I now also collect the full Clad Proof Sets from 2008 onward. The 2008 and 2012 Sets are early sellouts, the 2010 is surprisingly strong, and I love the 2009 Set with the Copper Cent lens .

I would like to do a 7146 filled with Silver Proofs, and will do so with loose lenses and coins (no breaking up OGP Sets).

I personally think the clad State Quarters will not be worth much in our lifetimes because so many people saved them (guilty). I used to save every nice one that I got in change in boxes (1 for P, 1 for D). But I stopped doing that a couple years ago because no one wants to buy even the uncirculated rolls anymore. That being said, I still think it is a great way for a new collector to start. They are readily available in change and they are interesting.

I do have complete rolls of most of the P and D State Quarters. I also have a Dansco album complete with P and D coins from 1999 to 2009. And I have silver proof sets from 1999 to 2013. I will not break these up to put in albums.

As long as you don't pay large premium for them, it's another way of "save money". Here's one way to do it: https://goccf.com/t/163501#163501

Now, with limited resources, I would suggest the ATB Quarters series over the State Quarters as the mintage is smaller.

I do have a complete run of Proof, Silver Proof, Mint set since 1999 + a completed PD set of the State Quarters. That's enough for me for the State Quarter series.

Since your children are collecting from circulation/pocket changes, it would be great for them to start on the ATB Quarters also, since the series just started in 2010 and many of the quarters are fresh/new.... you can also request rolls/boxes of quarters and let the do roll-search, what you can't find, you can alway ask members on here.

Two of the State only Quarter sets. I stopped with the Quarters after the State ones. I now feel 2 is 3 to many.

So...I might just nab that set for 40.00.
Face for the hundred coins is 25.00, that makes the dansco only 15.00
Sound like a good deal.
I often thought and considered trying to acquire pf 69/70 grades sets and maybe the highest graded business strikes I can afford or find.
Rest in Peace

IMO $40.00 for a complete P/D Dansco is a good price.
Your only the price of a Dansco above face, not much of a down side.

From my experience Nice BU's sell from .50 to .75 each.

Check out numismedia.com and see what some of the State Quarters values for MS-66 or MS-67, some are pretty good.

Also check the 2005 and up, to see if there are any satin finish coins. They are good ones to hold onto.
