I have a question for the cashier's on here. How often do half dollar coins and dollar coins come through your registers? It doesn't matter where you work, it could be convenience stores, fast food places, or even a department store.

I work part time at a small smoke shop and I rarely get half dollars (never any silver halves) and I get sacs, Presidential dollars and about a dozen SBA. One time I had an Ike walk in

Okay, that's about what I figured. To the people that go by drive up windows and ask for halves etc., how often do you get any?

I have an agreement with a clerk at a gas station who I met through craigslist. She has found about 3 silver quarters, 2 Mercs, 2 roosies, a Liberty nickel, couple dozen wheats, and a few bufffs in the past several months. I buy everything she gets for fair price (typically 95% of melt for silver) and between 1/2 and 3/4 of listed value for regular coins

I work at a grocery store near Jacksonville, NC and have the office people save me all half dollar and dollar coins that come in. I had 2 64's a 66 and about 20 Kennedy's come through over the past three months. Dollar coins are more common I get a few from them just about every day. Have around 80 in pres and sac and another 10 in Susan b's. I also had 1 Ike.

I worked as a cashier at a warehouse club (similar to Costco) from about 2008-2011. I can count on both hands the number of times I got half dollars, although the small-size dollars were slightly more regular; maybe an average of 1 every 2-3 months. Somebody at the food court once got an Ike dollar, and several cashiers (myself included) got silver half dollars. One of the employees there sold his coin collection to a local collector, and he spent the remnants which included a sizeable number of 40% halves. I personally got 5 from him, although he told me that he didn't think much of them since they were "milk silver" and he had spent more than $80 worth at the gas station the previous week. I personally put at least $200 worth of half dollars (supplied through CRH) through my till while I worked there, and they were met with anything from refusal ("This isn't real money!" "You can't spend these anymore") to exuberance ("Where did you get these? Do you have any more? I want all of them!"). I tried the same with small dollars, but they were met with significantly more resistance. I've never managed to get my hands on Ike dollars for face to spend or hand out.

I work as a bank teller. We get small dollars pretty regularly, maybe about a dozen a week or so. Half dollars, maybe a couple every few weeks. Sometimes we'll get someone's hoard of small dollars or halves. As far as Ikes, we maybe get 1 or 2 every few months, yet several people a week will ask for them! We've also had an ASE come across the counter!

@52Raymo: It was just his way of saying the coins didn't have enough silver to be worth anything over face value. I'm not sure if he realized that they were 40% silver; he might have been under the impression that they were 10% silver or just silver plated. People don't really seem to know what a fair price is for the 40% halves.

Another bank teller here. Half dollars come in all the time, but not in great quantity (no hunters yet) Dollar coins about the same as halves. I've been on a roll with IKE's after Christmas here. accumulated over 30 this year so far over the counter. I did have an amateur hunter who tested everyone's nerves by buying out all of our small dollar coins, (500) then cracked them all open while staying at the window and kept 4 Susan b Anthony and wanted the cash them back in.

I work at an autoparts store. Nothing from customers in the year I've been there. My finds come from bank rolls.
