Hi all, I had started a thread a week ago called my first 19th century coin purchase. Its a 1889 IHC and it just got here today BUT its the size of a Roosevelt dime and not the size of my 1907 and 1901 IHC's I have already. Did I get ripped off. I am on a tablet writing this so I cannot use the ebay link and post it.

Someone help.
Thanks John

Hmm. I don't see any obvious PMD.
Appears to have been cleaned though.

Is it copper? I once saw a smaller, plastic-like replica of an Indian cent. When dropped, does it sound like metal, like other cents?

Given the seller's inventory and 100% feedback in over 500 deals, I doubt that this is a rip-off. Also, the seller appears quite familiar with coins, and he sells key dates.

You are saying that the diameter is that of a dime? Check the weight and compare the cent's thickness to another Indian cent and a dime. Also, a pic of the Indian alongside another Indian and a dime might help us, too.

Encased Cents removed from their "keep me and never be broke" key fob, are always undersized. They are usually (and discernably) cupped a bit from the pressure exerted during the encasing process. I don't see any evidence of that in this case, however.

Looks to be the wrong color in my browser ... looks like brass.

I don't see any reasons to think that the coin is fake. Checking the weight would be a good idea but I don't see any red flags.

Based on the pic, it looks like a decent coin but if it's the size of a dime then it can't be real.

Hi all, I went to the coin dealer in my area and he looked at it. He said its real. He showed me other indian head pennies from the 1885 - 1889 and its sized up just fine. I am relieved its a good coin but embarrased a slight bit. Time for me to get glasses.

Never heard of this before. I've got lots and lots of IHC's and none are the size of a dime. Also, I like to use the Red Book for referencing and I just looked and, although lots of info, nothing about a reduced size Cent. Can't even see how this could happen since it would take different sized equipment to make a smaller version. Going to a large coin show this weekend and I'll go around asking.

Is it the size of a dime or a penny? These cents are the same diameter today as they were back then (with the exception of wear). Soooo, is it really the size of a dime or the correct size? Either way, it would be difficult to get ripped off with only $2 or so invested.
