Even with the marks and cuts I would still say its a VF ..Value would depend on which one it is.. The plain edge is worth more than the reeded edge.. So anywhere from 350.00 and up but with the marks probably 30 to 50 % cheaper. Is it for sale ? somewhere

Thanks artdio. It's marked on the envelope as 'thick'. No, it's not up for sale yet. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth putting up. Is ebay the best place to sell it? Or would it get more exposure at an auction?

kafka, dont even look at the other on ebay..He has not a chance in heck of getting even half that. Token collectors will holed out for an ugly one with no issues before buying the so called repaired one ... As for ebay its a great place and auction house ? will depend on the day I guess. You could offer it here also but I think you need 100 posts before that.. I know myself and other folks here would give it a shot..

It is one very cool token.
Maybe the Molson family would want to add it to their collection.. You should contact them and see if they are interested in it. Maybe they'd invite you over to show you what they've held on to.

Thanks everyone. If and when I get up to 100 posts I'll think of offering the token to the forum.

Somewhere I read that the Molson heirs still have the dies for these tokens.Perhaps they should reissue them as a bonus to increase market share of their swill.

As long as they don't sell the dies to China... ------------------------------------------- From an older Haxby & Willey..." The Molson Halfpenny was struck in Montreal by Jean Marie Arnault, who also engraved the dies. The obverse is a copy in reverse of a halfpenny token issued in Perth, Scotland,..in 1797."

DBM- very interesting article. I found the token in my dad's collection. He had a whole bunch of other tokens some in really good condition. So, do you think in it's present condition, it can fetch in the $800 neighbourhood?

Kafka as with any token - coin it will all depend on who wants it and the timing has to be in place ... Ex... I own a few 1880 Newf. gold coins... They are extremely rare and hard to come by as only 2500 were minted... But when selling once again it depends on who wants it, and as usuall most people want to get it as cheap as they can...
doesn't mean you wont just dont expect it....

Quote: do you think in it's present condition, it can fetch in the $800 neighbourhood? No the ebay seller is overly optimistic. I'd value it at about $300,but that's just IMO.
