Unbelievable. What a shame; really does kill people's trust in buying online. My question is if you are buying coins, a very niche market then maybe you would have worked your way up to that of at least has the common sense to do something research before putting that kind of money into cheap counterfeits.

"may be a replica but a good one." And still people bid up to $900!

This afternoon, it was $47.
That phrase is why I didn't report it.
Smart seller that knows exactly what he'sdoing.
Even Breen recognizes these copies but $900..good luck.

Quote: Smart seller that knows exactly what he's doing. I'd call it a con-game you often see on ebay. Seller portrays self as rather clueless to draw in greedy/inexperienced buyers--and bingo, someone is fleeced!

So aside from the, supposedly "clueless", seller and the fuzzy photography, we are all sure that it is a copy/counterfeit ?
A fool and his money are soon parted, but a fool usually pays $200 for a $70 coin. Hard to believe that n**h and o**b are two clueless people with $1000 plus dollars to throw away .

It very well could be knowledgeable individuals with no intention of paying. Bid it up and then report it.

This is quietly becoming a thing among some numismatists who are fed up wit ebay's inability to effectively police their auctions.

I don't have the knowledge to judge this coin ... but it appears that our experts are convinced that someone was fleeced. Ouch. David

That's sickening but folks this isn't just ebay. Local auctions you can see this too where people have a lot of EMOTION and several CENTS along with their DOLLARS but not enough SENSE. Example: I recently saw a 1969 Proof set bring not $20 or $40 but $90.00 and there was a 10% buyers premium on top of that. There were quite a bit of coins at this auction but most of the stuff was common silver dollars and modern USA coins (post 1933). What made it worse was the amount of jewelry. That brought in a lot of people that did not know what coins were worth. The auctioneer did not have trouble getting bids.
