Put it this way: It's front-page news when a real one reaches the market at all. It's a signature acquisition for the most well-heeled of collectors, or a museum. No price guideline is possible for something this rare.

Thanks SsuperDdave for the answer.

Well, we don't know about the bidders, if they knew about the coin, buy maybe $1K is a fair price for a very well done replica.

Not sure about Canada, but the price for a "well-done replica" in the US is a jail cell.

SsuperDdave: Is it illegal in USA to make a replica of a let's say 1700 foreign coin?

Not positive, but I think the only thing prohibited under US statute involves the dies/mold/etc. used for foreign coinage.

So did anyone here ever contact the seller regarding this coin?

Remember, if something goes like this, the buyer and the person who also bid it up are both clueless. You can only get a high bid after starting lower if two people force it up. Of course, each might assume the other knows the value.

Paid for it and the feedback says the buyer is really happy!
