I found it in a badly photographed no date SLQ auction lot and took a gamble on it being the 1916.I have been searching for a no date 1916 for quite some time. I am very familiar with the diagnostics through topics here and the great photo comparisons (1916 vs 1917)and previous discussions from Johnny54321,Nod2003 and others. I did many comparisons and have blown up side by sides photos of the 1916 and 1917,and decided I was fairly confident(90%)of it being a 1916. After winning the lot and having the coin in hand I was further convinced this was the 1916 type one....but I go back and forth..lol weak rivets in shield,no 2nd hair strand, weak bulkhead lines, space between foot and platform and shape of drapery fold, crease on arm extending beyond the bulkhead.arm band being wrapped and no third line creating a "y" under the drapery. This Coin is Currently in process at ANACS. What do the experts think? Thanks as always!! I logged into ANACS site....saw this Open Date 11/27/2013 3:13:39 PM Expected Ship Date* 12/23/2013 Item Date Mint Denom Variety Grade Shipped Date Carrier Tracking 440xxx 1917 25C VAR 1 2 12/18/2013 FedEx Finalizing It looks like they determined it's a 1917 Type1...I disagree and am a little disappointed. I don't know what my recourse is, but when I get the slab back I will put up photo's here then I will crack it out and hold onto it. It seemed like a no brainer, oh well... any suggestions from the members? Thanks RK Edited by RK55 12/18/2013 09:59 am

Thanks Dave!
I am awaiting our resident expert Johnny54321....I have learned a lot from his posts, photos and discussions on the diagnostics along with other CCF members contributions.
The coin shows in "grading" at ANACS. expected ship date is *12-23.
But the suspense is killing me.
euphoria or disappointment?

I like the lack of detail in the rivets on the shield, the seperation of the gown from the ground and the single hair curl on the back of her head.
Very promising!

I just subscribed to this topic as I can also not wait until the big reveal. Good Luck!

I agree with the lack of detail. Good Luck--I think you have a good chance at that one. There are four differences from the 1917, so someone who really knows these can tell right away.

I too like your chances. See the photo I've attached. I look at the areas I circled in blue when I come across dateless type 1 quarters. Yours lacks the detail which should indicate 1916 at this level of wear.

All I had to see was the base of the gown. It's pretty much definitive.

So far I feel better...I caught the auction 1 hour after it was listed, it was a 7 day auction!!I waited it out and in the meantime I kept researching to the point of overload, and that's when doubt can creep in.There had been many lots before this one that caught my eye but by enlarging photos, rotating, and comparison they were just no date 1917's until I saw this lot. I had read of johnny54321's discoveries way back and also had the diagnostic pictures saved.I found other areas to look at also. long story short, seemed like bids were hovering around melt on the lot, I made no bids til 1 minute left and tested the waters. To my amazement no one had a higher bid. with 10 seconds left I dropped a $300. max bid, held my breath and won the lot for $64 and change. the weird part was there were multiple lots and the same picture was used on all 3 listings. A story for another time, lol. @CoinsKelly, I plan to keep her, if in fact its the real deal. I will feel better when the king of no date 1916's (johnny54321)adds his 2 cents.

Awesome cherry, congrats on the early holiday gift! The gown was my main diagnostic I use.

I'm still convinced its 1916. Send it to NGC or PCGS.
