It appears ANACS is wrong on this one. I would call them on it.

I am on the phone with them now. they caught the package before shipment. The person I am speaking to is bringing the coin to the grader or graders. I explained the diagnostics that appear on this coin and asked if I could get a reason for their conclusion as it being a 1917T1... I am on hold, will update.
Thanks for the suggestion dave700x, I had only spoke to a receptionist prior on the initial submission as the coins (also an 1833 1/2 cent) were not showing up in their system.

I remember seeing a dateless 1917 labeled as a 1916 in a PCGS slab and went as far as contacting PCGS to let them know they made a boo-boo. It happens, I am sure ANACS will make this right.

Yes CoinsKelly...I saw that one also in my research.
Well GOOD NEWS!!
They opened the package, it was brought to the grader and was compared to another 1916 they had (which was dated)I guess then it was brought to J.P.Martin (hope it's ok to use his name) They have told me they made a mistake!!
It's a 1916!! They also said they are including a copy of the article J.P. wrote in the return package.
I may still get it for Christmas!!
Thanks again dave700x!! I didn't know I could call them on it. I was polite but firm on them please looking it over again.
Long story with good ending!
as it shows now on Anacs site,

What did ANACS grade it as? Fair or Poor? Details grade?
Beats the heck out of the one that I don't have.
Nice job of persistence and patience!

@ oih82w8 I am guessing FR2. when I looked on my account initially they had it listed as 1917 T1,grade 2. so I assume ag=3,fair=2 and poor=1?
their is no grade on the update when I look at my account, but my guess is it would stay the same.
they are probably too busy cracking it out to re slab as a 1916 lol.

JP Martin is the man when it comes to varieties as well as grading, he is one of the best guys in the coin business and also one of the most honest I've ever met! I had a class or two with him teaching ( Counterfeit Detection) years ago at ANA Summer seminars, and then he went to work for my friends company ICG, then off to ANACS - Glad you called them on the phone before it left the building and it found it's way into his hands! Congrats on a cool find!

Great thread read and congratulation on the authentication ... I had no doubt based on the photos. Your persistence has evidently paid off ... well done. David
