Looks like it could be, don't see any breaks in the plating like I would expect from a post mint hit hard enough to make an impression that deep.

I was thinking, maybe this is a planchet flaw before striking? I would think that a struck through this deep would have split the copper plating.I see no sign of any zinc showing. John1

John I think Lincoln needs to go to the emergency room he might need some stitches on that wound. Looks interesting I'm curious to see what the final verdict is.

I'm going with PMDIf the object was this large and struck through i think that the details/devices would be not as sharp as on this coin. The object would take up quite a bit of area. Possible that the plating just got pushed in and so why it is not showing any zinc if that is so.

If it were raised I would say struck through but it appears to be a dent in the coin i.e. post mint damage. The die polishing on the reverse sure is aggressive which I think is cool but of course is not worth anything of than being a coin to help catalog dies someday.

Sorry about that, you are correct. Struck throughs are incuse. I don't know what I was thinking the night I posted but I still think it looks like a dent in the coin. What do you think Condor101? I have never seen a struck through error like that but I see new stuff on this site all the time.

It certainly seems a strikethrough; a postmint dent of that size should result in displaced metal which I see none of.
