What do you think? Although it seems to be cleaned, it's still a solid coin if I can get it for a good price. It would also complete my Lincoln set (1909 to current minus the '22 no D) It doesn't appear to be fake from the photos and I'm just wanting some second opinions on it before I shell out the money.

Looks ok to me..... Just has been cleaned. If your happy is all that matters. I think I saw this coin, along with several others, in a different thread here on the CC forums. I think the Seller is going to be very surprised with what some of those coins end up bringing. Hope you get a good deal and get what you want. Nice!

I'm just learning......so if it's not dark brown/caramel colored it's an automatic cleaning verdict for a circulated coin? My only thought was that it doesn't look like it was circulated for very long to be in that gooda (is gooda a word :-) shape. Ed

I'm watching this one with thoughts about going for it too.

I probably won't though because I have a couple sizable bids elsewhere at the moment. So...I'd be happy to share my thoughts here.

First off it looks genuine to me but it does require authentication of course. If I won it it would be paid for with a credit card through PayPal so there would be no worries about getting refunded if it came back from TPG as not genuine.

Secondly, the coin might have rim damage (or other damage too) and likely has been cleaned (but not harshly IMHO). The detail there is VF+, VF30 to me.

Lastly, if that coin were to grade problem-free VF30 at a top TPG it would be worth about $800 retail in today's down market. Worst case (assuming it's genuine) it's a VF Details piece worth about $500.

It looks mighty appealing at its current bid and is likely worthy of a $400 hammer price. Anything under $300 will appear as a rip IMHO. Good luck!

I put in my maximum bid (my budget) this morning because I would be at work when it ended and it seems someone already has a higher hidden bid. Oh well..

I watch these all day long and would be surprised if it goes for less than $600. Less than $500, no possible way. It might have been cleaned but is in very good shape.

Definitely cleaned at some point. Save your money for a problem-free example. This is the most important coin in any Lincoln collection. Why settle?

I echo Bad Thad's post, verbatum.

I saved, scratched, sold, wondered, and finally bought an MS63BN PCGS graded S VDB (and the coin has some hints of red) for a LOT of money to me. I was happy the day it arrived and still am. Yes, pinnacle of the set....bar none. Because it is in a holder, there is an empty hole in the set....but the slab is in the slab box in the safe.

$656 closing bid. Somebody way over-paid IMO. Top TPG certified VF30 pieces can be found for $700 these days, it's a buyers market right now.

Same seller had a high grade 1921 that I considered until I checked my own and Heritage. I believe the date is a 40s vintage. The numerals are not like any others I've seen. nlp
