I did not take your comments as speculating on me, as the seller. I appreciate your several posts on the 1901 Indian Head. I have removed all the coins mentioned by list members as suspect from my ebay listings.

Hello, Paul Bulgerin and Welcome. As previously stated, there are a lot of knowledgeable members here and discussion is usually on the item or items and not the seller...until it becomes obvious that something else is going on. I applaud your coming here and also taking down the items til they can be further investigated or explained. It's Better to be safe than risk having a bigger problem down the road if in fact they turnout to be fakes. A lot of us here are also ebay sellers/buyers and the CCF community is about education and the sharing of knowledge among novice, seasoned collectors and some with quite the expertise in any given field of the hobby.. Heck, I learn things every day and I am an oldie. I have a question, you keep referring to "list members".....are you confusing us with the powers to be that make decisions on the removal or re-instatement of ebay listings?

Just curious
Did you purchase all the coins mentioned .. From the same seller.
I have not looked at all the suspect coins, but the 1891 dime would worry me.
The coins I see posted are not the normal coins being faked.
I hope for you that it is just the pictures, pictures sometimes do not show how A coin truly looks.
But as said before, there are some very good experts here on CCF. When the experts think something looks wrong, I would look into it.
Of course that is just my opinion.

I agree with GR58. In my opinion the Lincoln looks like it may be suffering in detail due to lighting and contrast. The dime... I'm in no way even a novice in that series but I do see some differences. Just my humble opinion. Interested to hear what your LCS says. Hope to hear soon! :)

To answer a number of questions raised: All these coins were purchased from different ebay sellers in the last month. That's why I invited people to check out my feedback comments so they can see that all the coins have different sources. I will admit that the 1928 is a difficult coin to photograph. I took about 20 photos of it trying to get a decent one and wasn't overly happy with the photo I used on ebay. I photographed it finally in sunlight, but with the low winter sun here in Wisconsin you get strong angles, even at noon. My comment about "list members" was not in reference to any ebay decision-making body, but comments by members of the CCF in the active topics on my coins. I don't mean to be defensive, but to have all these different coins purchased from different sellers all called in question in a single thread did hit me as strange. Once again, I do appreciate the comments and will show the coins in question to my local dealer. I hope to do this over the weekend.

It may be pure coincidence that I saw two coins in your ebay store that had me going I think it speaks volumes for your integrity that you pulled the auctions simply because a few collectors here were unsure about them.

Thank You. I appreciate the comments.
While I've had a rather shaky introduction to this list, I think I'll stick around.
My main area of collecting is ancient Roman coins, but I've been buying and selling U.S. more recently as I'm getting back into collecting U.S. type coins. I'm sure I can learn a lot from the group.

I really don't see the problem with the 1928 Lincoln. Between different dies, EDS,MDS,LDS, and VLDS; Die Spacing, ect ect, you get a fair variation of detail on these coins. Also, quite frankly I think the photo is not as good as it could be. But again, we all have different levels of expertise and equipment. I'm on board with the dime, but the original coin, the 1928 LWC, just doesn't bother me.

The looks 100% authentic, it's the picture that is murdering it. I would like to have seen the reverse to fully evaluate it, but I can tell pretty much from the obverse that it's "real". The L going into the rim cannot be faked from what I've ever seen on other fakes. I can also see a couple of slight traces of cartwheel luster.
You guys are putting too much faith in the picture - never do that unless you are familiar with the photographer. I actually think this is a lightly woodgrained, red cent. I'm willing to bet it's actually very nice in hand.

Quote:All the coins listed as suspected counterfeits are mine. I'm the same seller who was offering the 1901 Indian Head cent that was in question yesterday. I hope list members looked at the photos I posted that I believe don't show any metal above the second T in STATES. As I said yesterday, I am going to show that coin to my local dealer and will submit if for certification. I'm a collector of 40 years who buys coins on ebay to resell to pay for my hobby. All the coins that list members are questioning are individual purchases from other ebay sellers in the last month or so. I am certainly no "huckster" as one list member suggested (I'm a Lutheran minister who takes my good name, and ebay feedback very seriously). I am a bit incredulous to think that almost every coin I have purchased in the past month is a counterfeit. Out of respect for the group I will remove the coins in question from ebay and show them, as well, to my local dealer. Paul - I commend your for being so cool! I cannot speak for any coin other than the 1928 Lincoln, which I believe to be authentic. Your picture is TOO WELL lit. The picture is over-exposed. I don't know the original size, but the Lincoln image posted has a lot of granularity in it....looks to be due to processing. When you have too much light, it will cut through the patina and make the coin look funky. You can ask for help in the photography forum here. We have a lot of good folks here to help. Better ebay photos will help you sell more coins.

Here's another attempt at photographing the 1928 Lincoln. With the color and luster it's hard to get a good shot of it. It does have a wood-grain tone to it.
