I was browsing ebay as I often do when I am bored. I came across a seller on there that had a bulk lot of Barber dimes, 1000 in all. I looked at the photos there doesn't seem to be anything spectacular about the lot; I realize it's likely been picked over. Nonetheless, I would love to be able to go through something like that. Would you? Curious to hear what everyone has to say. -MV

It would be exciting to look through, that is for sure! I love to look through random silver coins to check for key dates, etc.

I would love to go through it, though it'll be expensive.

Considering I only need a few common dates to complete my set of this series, I'd love to look through them. I wouldn't be able to purchase them to do that though.

I have no doubt that they would all be discards and duplicates. Nevertheless there is bound to be at least quite a few in a specialist sample as large as that to be above or below average, by whatever criterion you may apply, be it condition, date, scarce variety, mint mark or minor error.
What makes this lot more attractive is that they are all relatively scarce Barbers, compared to Roosies or Mercuries.

I'm enjoying reading everyone's replies.
One of these days I'll save enough to buy a bulk lot of some US coin other than cents.

I wish I had $1400 to spend(melt would be my max on it, I'd re-sell them after looking and try to make a few hundred on them and buy me a proof Barber dime with the $1600). Although I'm sure it's like the rest of the lots I see on ebay and 99% newer dimes that are fairly worn, it's that 1% that's interesting.

A question you need to ask yourself is this: "After I have picked thoroughly through this lot, what am I going to do with the rest of them?"
That's most probably what the previous owner has already asked himself, and that is probably why this lot is up for sale now.

One of my best memories was searching a $100 bag of Mercury dimes. I found many date and mint issues missing from my set including a VF 1921 d. I miss my coin dealer from my youth.
