Not bad for a first attempt, rickynic. A little more light and that first picture would be quite nice. The second one is better light-wise. I think you're going to be taking very good pictures in a fairly short while!

Trying to get good coin pics can be frustrating, yet fun! You're doing ok, rickynic. I see that you are using photobucket. I've been meaning to explore that

Crop your pictures right down to the coin. If you can't do it within your camera, then use your favorite photo editor. (I like GIMP) Do you have your camera mounted on a stand or tripod? Any camera movement during exposure will spoil the shot.

What camera are you using?
I have a Nikon L610 (Basically a $200 point & shoot unit.)

Here's a pic that I've uploaded tonight directly to this site. ....

I'd rather spend money on nice coins than a camera any day.

Although the 5mp resolution of your camera is a long way from the density of today's cameras, I think you should be able to get some enjoyable images.

The 5700 will focus as close as 3cm. However, at that close distance, lighting is a bit of a problem.

Try shooting from about a foot away from the coin. Try a little closer, if you can get good light on the subject. I've had some good results by placing a coin on a North facing window sill on a clear day.

Avoid zoom function, or add-on lenses. They just increase the chance of optical distortion.

Keep the camera steady!

Look for posts by SsuperDdave. He is our resident photo guru! (And guru of Morgan dollars!)

Crop your images down to the coin.

Looking forward to seeing more pics from you!

Photobucket does awful things with bandwidth limits and deleting old images - use imgur. It easily allows batch uploads without captcha.
