It seems that here in mississauga circulation finds are fairly common like pre 1967 nickels, silver dimes,And the odd silver quarter.seeing as the Penny's been missing for many months now with not one showing up I figered I would never see one
in circulation again...
But then yesterday I looked in my change and what do I see?
A PENNY!!!
And here's the kicker, it wasn't just a regular kanuck cent.
IT WAS A 1949 PENNY
but than I dropped it in the one place you lose your change forever......the car
Long story short tomorrow my morning will be spent checking under the seat

Ohhh my... I feel your pain...

I have been putting the pennies away before they took them all away... was hoping that it would be a fun project to go through a whole bunch of dates when he gets a bit older. So far we have put away about 10 - 15 boxes of 'em.

Is that too over zelous?

I have a few pounds of Canadian cents from circulation and CRH but none from 2012, did they actually circulate them or just make and hoard at the mint like the 2009 US nickels?

The 2012 cent/penny actually circulated. I got about 6 in my change. Yes a huge amount were hoarded.

Hi ASLAN

I managed to find several rolls worth of 2012 pennies in change before they stopped circulating, but here's the kicker: all but 2 of the pennies were magnetic ones... I don't know how many of each (mag and non-mag) were minted, but maybe we just didn't get many non-mags here in Ontario.

Haha Coinsplus' ad on that dropstop thing :P

Hope you find it soon though, btw are 1949 pennies generally rare? I search on coinsandcanada and seems like one variety is rather rare but the other pretty common.

Dollarman, are you feeling enraged by your displaced penny? Probably not as much as somebody might have been 2 centuries ago when a penny was worth a whole lot more, as in Beethoven's time. Rumour has it he wrote one of his more popular caprices after an episode where he lost a penny. Granted, that penny was said to be gold not copper, but the sentiment is the same.

@ pennysaver

The split was around 55/45 between steel and zinc 2012 pennies.
