I wonder if that's a digit below and just to the left of the first eight peeking out from the denticles ?

MS64...Just guessing though as I'm not an Indian 1 cent collector. Appears to be no wear. Beautiful coin!

It's hard to tell on brown MS IHC's from pictures as they always look better in hand, but I'll say MS-63 but it could well be higher than that.

That is one very sharply struck LIBERTY...

I'm not seeing any surface issues that would keep this from 64BR

I took out my Snow guide to see if there is one with a digit by the denticles below the 18 of the date - and there is not. However, the die roughness on the portrait, from die rust, is seen in PR4. Any chance this is a Proof coin?

I think it might be proof, I don't know. I know this type of coloration can come from cleaning, but these green and blue iridescent colors (I'll try to get better pics if there is any interest) look like colors of proofs of seen of this year.
I know coloration is a very weak diag to go by.
This coin has been a troublemaker in my collection for many years.
What books should I use to learn more about IHC proofs? I haven't found much.
(should I pose this question in another section?)

I see squarish denticles on this example. Maybe I'm imagining them. People will chime in on whether this is proof or not - it'll just take a day or two, especially since this is Friday.

MS-62 BR sounds about right. A few more photos would help

I took it out of the flip. These are a little better. I'll try to get the iridescence. It's a great looking coin in hand. Tilted it in the light it is beautiful, maybe from an old cleaning, I don't know.
