Hey Everyone!

I'm new to coin collecting but I was going through some chance and came across this. I saw one sold for $20K+, I'm sure this won't with the condition of it. I would like to hear what everyone has to say about its condition and if it's still rare?

Thanks!

Man what a shame. That's the kind of luck I have if I find something good. You could try that NCS/NGC conservation and grading service or just slap it on ebay for .99 cent start and free ship. That will tell you in short order how much it's worth lol.

Better off on ebay. No matter what you do to this thing it will still be far too damaged to fix.

That's what I was hoping I wouldn't hear. Do you think its worth sending off to be "restored"? Do you have any idea how much that would roughly cost?
Rest in Peace

Cody174,
This a tough call. The CAM looks right not sure about the FG.
CCF members will chime in.

I look forward to getting more peoples opinions. I can't take a picture at the moment, but I just double checked the "FG" to following picture and it matches perfect.

I suspect that one is the real deal--what a shame about the condition--a pox on the Zincolns!

So, from what I hear...this coin is worth 1 cent because of its condition?

In my most humble opinion I would do what Raymo52 suggested as far as sending it in for conservation and grading. While it is true your coin is in awful condition, As Kloccwork419 said it won't ever be fixed, but it will look better and it is such a rare coin I feel you will more than recoup your expenses if it is verified by a grading service as a 1992D CAM. If you decide just to list it, please let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Yes it will look better and be in a genuine slab that people can trust. It will be sought after because it will be one that bidders feel they can afford.

Definitely worth more than a cent, even in that condition. It's just hard to give you a value because there's nothing to compare it to.

While not as $$$$ as a nice one, it allows people who cannot afford a good one to have an example for their collection, which is probably just as rare as a nice one coming onto the marker (ok, not really but you get what I am saying), so I could still see it getting some money.

to CCF. You might want to contact a professional conservation service to see if it's worth having it saved, here is one place http://www.ncscoin.com/ It is worth far more then face value even in that condition. Please let me (us) know how it goes,i am very interested. Thanks for posting.

Definitely worth a lot more than 1 cent. I would soak it in 100% pure acetone and a rinse (with clean acetone) see what all comes off and what is actually damage. Do not rub it or do anything abrasive the acetone will remove "grime" on its own. But a soak in acetone will not hurt the coin at all. Then I would post more pictures for us to be jealous about and follow Johns advice.

to CFF and thanks for sharing.

I would not do anything to this coin. Any acid that might com in contact with it will accelerate the zinc rotting process. Looks like a lot of stain and exposed zinc. I would keep it away from the air in perhaps an air tight holder. Better to be able to see it, than to ruin what you have. What we do to coins today, do affect the future of each coin.
