Anyone get into Half Cents? I don't see much about them and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book about them or possibly a site that has some information. Thanks, Mark

It's funny you asked that Mark. I've dived into as much information as I can find on Half Cents in my little book collection (for a future article I'm writing). There is a lot of information about them if you're interested in their technical aspects but very little about contemporary issues and information. Walter Breen has a book dedicated to Half Cents that I understand is one of the best available.

You could try that new Coin Community site I've heard about for lots of half cent information.

Way to be subtle. BTW I Love the links that are attributed to the appropriate info.

I recently purchased Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of United States Half Cents 1793-1857. It's a fabulous book. I enjoy buying reference books as much as I enjoy buying coins. This book can be a little pricey, but is well worth it. Edited to add: I just checked Brent-Krueger's site and he has the book on sale for $59.50. This is an excellent price for this book. Susanlynn9: Breen can be very useful, however, everything that he says is not gospel. He has many errors, so double check anything that he says: "rare" or "currently rare".

I don't use it for rarity, just for attribution and die state.

Breen's is probably the best to date.

I had an opportuinity to get a few low grade draped bust when I was younger but I passed them up; most likely foolishly but they were over 200 at the time (VG-F I believe) and I wasn't much of a serious collector. The one above my post is pretty darn nice, though. Edited by the Language Police.
