PCGS deemed this coin counterfeit. I just got it back and even with a loop I think I can make out the omega symbol in the R in Liberty. It's a pretty darn good looking fake though. I bought it at auction and thankfully the owner said I could return the coin for a full refund. The Coin World is a pretty crazy place... Edited by OLCoins 01/10/2014 8:37 pm

I remember reading about the Omega Twenties but didn't know there were other counterfeit gold coins targeted.

MV, yah apparently Omega is known for that $20 piece and the 1882 $3. That probably would have been good information for me to know before I bought two of them raw..

You might want to see what the omega coin is worth to a collector of counterfeits, may be worth your while to find out, I know the $20.00 Saints are worth a lot today to certain dealers and collectors as collectibles in their own right.

Dale! Glad you are getting a refund from the seller. It sure would have fooled me!

That's a darn good fake! Reckon they could of missed the call on this one? I doubt the Chinese could even attempt a fake of this high caliber.

They didn't miss the call. This counterfeit has been known since at least the early 70's.

If you look into the history of the Omega counterfeits, they did miss them - at first. If you are an ANA member, the back issue for September 2007 has an article on two "Omega" Counterfeits. NGC's piece on the $3 is here: https://www.NGCcoin.com/news/articl...hree-dollar/

An awfully good fake, might there be any clues or evidence as to the counterfeiter?

I sweat it out every time I submit a gold coin to NGC. This is some scary stuff, especially counterfeit gold in fake NGC slabs! AFAIK Omega Man has never been identified.

Quote: Beautiful coin, Superb eye appeal. Love the coin! You shouldn't love it; it's a fake and a dangerous one at that. The last I heard of an Omaga 1907 High Relief $20 gold was at the Baltimore coin show. A dealer said he had one, and wanted $4,000 for it. It's worth the melt value so far as I'm concerned. Don't feed the counterfeit trolls.
