Just bought an ag3 1921d Mercury dime at new castle coin show. Leaves only 1 dime missing in my library of coins albums. I suppose everyone know which one that is.

Obviously, you're missing the 1926d! Or maybe I'm off by a decade Any plans to tackle the king of the mercs? I'm putting a set together too, but I really haven't thought much about what I'll do about the 1916d...

I am on a fixed income now, social security, no prospects for even a fair 2 1916d dime

So this means you have the 1942/41? Both my library of coins albums are empty in that hole (along with many others). Congrats on getting the 21-D!!

alas, no, I have lied to myself and put in a dime with the reverse showing so there is no hole, however, now that you have brought it up I am sad that I am deceiving myself

That hole really urks me. It kind of makes me think that the 42/41 was very do-able back in 1959.

I actually do not believe it should be included, it is an error coin, I personally don't think it should be included, or the 1895 hole in my morgan album, an album should be for regular circulation issues and not include any errors or proof only coins, that is my rant for the moment

woodcr; congrats on picking up your 21-D! I believe the hole in my folder that that coin, and its brother the 1916, will never be filled.
I also wish the 'secondary' coins weren't included in the 'official' listings for complete sets. I recently bought a new Whitman folder for my 1911-1952 Canadian quarters to replace the one I was using (a Whitman, but published in 1954). Before I just had one hole waiting to be filled (the 1936-dot). Now I find I have FOUR holes in the new folder; the prior mentioned 36-dot, a 47-dot, a 51-LR, and a 52-HR. I'm losing ground!

I know this may sound kinda weird, but I give this advice to my young collectors. I tell them to get a shoe box take the top on and cut a slit in the top. Then I tell them to put just $4 in it every week. About half of them actually do it. But the ones that do are surprised to learn that after 2 years they have enough money to buy that 16d. It takes patience and discipline but it works.

You may be lucky. I use Whitman Classic Albums and I have slots in them for both the 42/41 and the 42D/41. Neither one should really be considered part of a collection. Also, have a slot for the 45 Micro S. Another really Dumb thing since now more amd more large and small Mint marks are being found in that series. I really dislike Album manmufacturers dictating to people what they should and shouldn't collect. Same with the many dumb ones required in a Lincoln Cent Album.

I have mine in a custom Dansco, along with my Indian Head cents and Buffalo nickels. I used blank pages, so there is nothing compelling me to buy a 42/41 for this set.

woodcr, Forget that 'deceiving yourself' nonsense and call it what it is: Another collector defies the tyranny of album makers. You'll feel better.

Reminds me of a whitman Barber dime Album with the hole for the 1894-S.It a least had a cardboard punch out in it that said rare.. Like jbuck,I use the blank Dansco album pages. I also still search the junk boxes at coin shops. That where my 45 micro S came from along with several other varieties and a few errors. With the blank Dansco pages you get to put in what you want. regards coffeecup57

It is also strange when you are personally involved in something instead of just giving advice, over the years when asked by friends about split grades I said there is no split grade, which side is lowest grade then that is the grade. Now I have this 1921 d mercury that is according to pcgs online and my old brown and dunn book, both pcgs online and brown and dunn give the obverse as g4 and the reverse as ag3, I will leave it ag3 but I really would like to say obverse g4, reverse ag3
