What's going on with this IHC? Coin is not bent or otherwise damaged. Just the top reverse of the coin has been effected. Any ideas? Apologies for not cropping the image, but I'm short on time.

Pretty serious lamination, I think?

Very interesting--looks more struck that way than PMD.

the reverse would be affected if it was PMD. Looks like a defective planchet with a struck through lamination?

Looks like pre strike lamination that got folded over before it was struck.

How uncommon, or common, is something like this? I don't know much about errors and especially errors on IHC's.

From what I've seen among IHC collectors, IHC errors are very desirable. I notice the wreath almost appears to curve into the hollow area. I'm wondering if a piece of the planchet fell out when it was punched, or after the rim was raised? Perhaps the error experts can help us out here?

They are fairly uncommon. Coins like this are hit or miss. If it was slabbed problem-free (not sure if it would or not because of the scratches on the reverse), I could see it pulling $50.

Thanks for all the info. I'll just put it in a 2x2 holder and hold onto it for a while.

I'm with Robbudo, I sell a ton of Lamination errors, and they are hit and miss. Prices are all over the place. I don't think $50 is unreasonable. But it is all about who is bidding and looking at your coins. I've sold some really nice ones for Ninety Nine Cents and some pretty average ones for as much as fifteen dollars. You just never can tell.

I could see it selling for $100 or more if graded, the problem is, you would have $50 or more in fees just to get it graded with the error on the label.

I might have over estimated but I still think it is a really cool error. Here is one listed on ebay that is similar except the lamination has fallen off, or it was actually Struck Through Grease or something like the seller says. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1895-INDIAN...em51b836e533 You coin is in much nicer condition than the one in the auction though and the added retained foldover lamination is much more dramatic.
