Pictured are a 1962,1963, & 1964 RCM pliofilm individually issued Proof-Like silver dollars. I do know that the Proof-Like sets from 1961-67 were issued in the pliofilm packaging. My question is were any 1961,1965,1966, or 1967 Proof-Like silver dollars individually issed in pliofilm as examples show. I just have never seen those years. Thanks

I can't answer to the years you are asking about, but I have 1968 nickel dollars in individual RCM plastic.

This was posted by Solidifier and Bm0ney in another thread. Quote: business strikes are a lot different they are graded from G to MS, UNC and so on 1953 - 1967 sets - Proof-Like sets - PL 1968 - Present sets - Numismatic Brilliant Uncirculated NBU or BU
I did not know that 2011 to date the coins in the sets are considered circulation strikes....is this true?
Quote: 2011 12 13 Uncurculated set coins are exactly the same as coins issued to the banks. No special strike, no special handling.

I believe individual PL dollars weren't issued in '65,'66 or '67. They were issued in '61,but I can't recall how they were packaged.

Individual silver dollars were sold by the mint to collectors in every year from 1949 to 1964.Pre-1954, getting a PL dollar was pretty much hit and miss thing.Not sure of the packaging for most years,hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

@tripoli...Thanks, I have seen the 1968's.
@DBM...Thanks, I didn't think they issued in 65,66,&67, but didn't know for sure. I am curious if the 1961 PL dollar was issued individually and how it was packaged. The first year they used pliofilm packaging was 1961 on the PL sets. I also do know 1960 PL dollar was issued individually but came cellophane wrapped. My quess would be it was available and probably in pliofilm.

I believe the 1949s came in rolls thus the brilliant grades they achieve. And in 1953 or the early Elizabeth rein single dollars were isued in cover like envelopes or something that were first strike covers.I believe they did the same thing with lower denominations.

Wait are you saying there were no proof-like dollars in '67?
Because I was certain I had one a while ago...

They weren't issued individually in '67,only as part of a set.

How about 1949-1952?
There were PL and SP coins for 1949-1953, 1964-1967. There were never full PL sets until 1953.
I think 1951 had a 25c, 50c, $1 PL set available and probably an individual $1, and it was only $1 for the other years.
Does anyone know how these pre-1953 PL were packaged?

From Haxby coins of Canada; "The numismatic section of the Royal Canadian Mint was established in 1949. Prior to this the Ottawa branch of the bank of Canada had accepted orders for Uncurculated sets of the coinage for the current year at face value plus postage. The sets were shipped in cellophane envelopes until 1953 and in white cardboard holders enclosed in cellophane envelopes from 1953 to 1960. Most of the coins in the year sets of this period were regular production strikes."

The 1961 and 1962 individual PL dollars came in either cello wrap or pliofilm have handled both. Back door job individual 1965 Large bead Blunt 5 type 3 PL and Pointed 5 Large bead type 4 Silver dollars were in cello wrap. The so called 1953 PL sets in the familiar cardboard cello package commonly found in the 1954-60 Pl sets are NOT repeat NOT Prooflike sets! Any where fro zero to six coins will be superior circulation coins. The 1949-52 sets from the mints numismatic department were in a small white cardboard box individual wrapped in cello with a large copper staple holding them in place. Most of these 1949-52 coins are circulation strikes with the odd PL or specimen coin contained in some of these sets. Hope this all helps J
