I would imagine it has to do with the rules about how posts are counted. There are certain sections of the forum that don't count at all....& in the rest it must be a "quality post" for it to count. At one time there was a problem with people joining & then going through the old threads posting things like "nice coin" "cool" etc to build up enough post to be able to sell on the forum.

Exactly. Just enjoy the posts, ask relevant questions if you have them, and post when you have something to add and the numbers will increase before you realize.

I'm going to address this. You're not going to like what I have to say.

Staff has been reducing your post count. You have been the most prolific new member in the history of CCF - almost 100 posts in your first 48 hours here - and in your time have posted virtually nothing of substance. Had we let your postcount stand, you would be in the top 500 of over 20,000 members in your first week in the Forum.

Your postings are a series of "me, too" blurbs, mindless agreement with other posters and in many cases (note my comment as repeated by amida17 above) demonstrate no attention paid or actual understanding of what's being discussed. Saying "I hope it's not fake" regarding a coin which has already been proven to be impossible helps neither the original poster nor your personal reputation. Heck, you only use punctuation (or even need it) once every 100 posts or so.

The only reason you haven't been nuked yet is that none of us believe you're in any way malicious. You can consider this post an intervention - I'm not enjoying this any more than you are - in the hope of getting you to step back for a minute and reevaluate your presence here. We don't require you to be an expert at Coin Community - our whole purpose for being is to educate newer collectors, unlike most competing forums - but we do ask that you be serious about your participation here, and attempt to provide some signal in addition to the noise. That could just as easily take the form of a question as anything else; give us the chance to do something constructive with what you post here.

Please. We really don't want to make you go away, but as of right now all you are is a drain on our resources.

To answer your question more directly: the admins and moderators are manually (and repeatedly) editing down your post-count, to match what we believe is a more accurate reflection of the number of "quality" posts you have made. Saying "nice coins" fifty or five hundred times does not qualify as "quality", it qualifies as "annoying".

For everyone else who may be reading this and wondering, "Hey, are those sneaky moderators doing that to me as well?", the answer is "Almost certainly not.". We only do it for relative newcomers to the forum who appear to be making bazillions of mindless, meaningless posts, purely in an attempt to increase their post-count.

I'm sorry if you think "mindless and meaningless" is a bit harsh, but the post linked to by amida17 above is an excellent example. You posted "hopefully it's not a fake coin", after a half-dozen members have already condemned it as a blatant, obvious fake. That's not just unhelpful, it's a failure of the Turing Test: non-sentient behaviour.

Stop acting like a spambot, and your post-count will increase.

Edited to add: SsuperDdave types faster than me when he's been sleep-deprived.

okay I'm fine with that but why do you delete my posts when I grade coins do you consider that meaningless as well?

While the length of your posts has slightly increased during this morning's spam-fest, the quality has not.

To answer your question: we didn't delete your grading posts. We didn't even knock too many off your count for them. However, it was obvious the point of all those grades, all posted within 1-2 minutes of each other like the rest of your posts (did you even have time to look at the coin in question?), were just to increase post count. As stated earlier, this is not something we condone.

It's not just the littering up of the forum with clueless replies; it could actually do harm when some of them are so misleading or downright wrong. Our older members will understand when someone is new and to not take their words as gospel, but a new member won't know that and might think the reply has merit. We've had to clean some of those so that the person asking a real question isn't misled *or* given the wrong impression of us as a whole. You do yourself and us a great disservice by posting in this manner. As stated, we don't expect anyone to be an expert, but we do expect them to think before posting.

You might be able to find a forum that will enjoy your posting style, but that place is not here.

When I started in this forum (I was 99% of time in the Canadian NCLT) the last thing I was worried about was my posts count. What's the difference for you between having 30 posts count or 500 post counts? What do you need the posts count for?

I think the gist of the lesson to be learned here is, in the slightly altered words of a famous dead president,...... ask not what this forum can do for you, but what you can do for this forum.

That being said, this forum has done a lot more for me that I have done for it. I've learned a lot, but have tried to pass along knowledge I consider solid and informative when given the chance. SsuperDdave is quick on the draw and I rarely visit a topic I find interesting that he hasn't already summed up the truth in a thorough and concise manner.

I've enjoyed the heck out of this forum and could care less about my post count. I appreciate the strict standards maintained here and the effort it takes to do so.

nice guesses, maybe you should clean the coin

from https://goccf.com/t/168359

Please stick around you have a lot to learn.

I'm 3 days away from being here a month, and when I signed up the first thing I did was read the rules... actually READ them, not just scan them like I do with other 'boiler plate' 15-page, 'say the same thing' type [RULES] that you have to wade through on other sites.

*Quality post: This is entirely at the Staff's discretion. Running through a bunch of topics and responding with "cool", "nice find", "thanks", and similar short no-brainer responses are not considered quality posts. Don't laugh, we've had new members do this then go straight to the sell section and post a link to their ebay auctions. Post counts may be edited by the Staff at any time without warning.

- about half way down the very short 'Rules' page

When I read the part of the rules about '*Quality posts' I thought it would be forever to get 100 posts for a signature. In my first 3 days I broke over 100 posts, I sailed past the 250 mark after only 14 days. I know for a fact that some of my posts have been removed, I'm sure the staff remembers the slightly inappropriate thread that I was joining in with. I think I remember having a few knocked off for what ever other reason (I don't know why and I don't really care) I also know for a fact that I am over 500 total posts even thou my post count is only showing 457 with this post, I always try to check the new 'Introduce your self here' posts and at least put a , but those don't count as '*Quality posts' Even with 250+ posts I still can not buy/sell/trade until April. Maybe by then I'll have an ebay store set up but I'm not into selling coins, so will most likely not be too active here on that score.

I don't even see this forum as a sales arena, it is for the fun of it, my favorite posts are the 'Need Help with ID' type. If I have no idea on a coin I will usually not even comment but after 30+ years of collecting the ones I do know I know well, and I comment on them. Case in point https://goccf.com/t/166326&SearchTerms=reputation 'ID needed for Chinese silver coin' my last statement there was 'Since I don't have a reputation to stake I'm hoping to gain it now.' since no one has said I'm wrong I guess I have a reputation to stake next time. Work to your strengths, take 40 minutes researching one coin and post one quality response instead of scatter-gunning a few dozen different topics. Even if someone else beat you to the first response you may have found something they didn't know about. Ask questions, start a new thread with a coin you found, even if you have no question nice pics and a cool story about how you came by it are more quality than other posts.

I don't belong to other coin forums and don't want to, this is the first one I signed up for and it might just be the last too.

What do you need the posts count for

It's not a popularity contest, even with your count being reduced we are both over 16 posts per day so I can only assume that you do have something to offer. Three posts per day for 90 days is 270 posts, so by the time you can buy/sell/trade you can get to 250 with very little effort, if that is your main goal. Also, if sales are your main goal then reputation is the thing to work for now.

With my prolific postings I'm not sure if the staff cringes or chuckles when they see a new posting from me. I hope it's mostly chuckling

Edit: I said 457 posts... but this section doesn't count towards post totals like the intro section... I just spent more than an hour composing, reading, re-reading, editing, and re-phrasing this posts before I posted it and now I'm taking a few more minutes to re-edit it and it still doesn't count towards post totals, but I'm OK with that.
re-edit: I wasn't trying to pad my post count, that just doesn't matter to me
