I have 120 1956 D LWCs so I decided to look through to see if I could get lucky. Here is coin #114 -

Thank you kindly! I'm told that it's not worth a great deal, but still a thrill to find one amongst the hoard.

The thrill- that is why we hunt.

Thanks 52' for the going rate...at least for the day. My best specimen of a DDO.

It is a RPM, not a doubled die.

Coop - did a quick search on repositioned mintmarks. I didn't see a decent explanation of what that is. Is it the repositioning of the mintmark only on the face of the die? I'm guessing a search here might yield a better result.

The mint marks are punched into the die. When the punches don't fall over each other, a RPM is born until 1990 when the mint marks are part of the design. The stronger the better.

The three best RPM's, in my opinion are the 56D,60D, and 53D, in that order. In 56 you actually have three pretty good ones, 1,8, and 18. 53 and 60 would both be RPM-1.

003 is not a bad one either:
1956-D/D-DDO-LWC
016 isn't bad either:
1956-D/D-DDO-LWC
But these two RPMs are mainly seen in the earlier die states. LDS/VLDS they start to disappear.

I'm impressed by the detailed information member have here!! Very cool to learn about a coin you may have...or may be searching for. I feel I need to revisit my hoard of 56 Ds to see if I have one of these other RPMs. Seems I could make a small project reviewing this lot!! Thanks for the details folks!!

I will Albert. Is this a close-up of the eye details? Is the doubling in the eye and/or bridge profile?
