Quote:With the dual date, marking of 0.75 oz 999 fine gold, original government packaging or slabs, and going back to the first design of 1964, I don't think anyone will confuse these with gold-plated coins. Tell that to the folks who have been recently paying $1,400+ on ebay for the gold plated "tribute" gold buffalos that are even marked COPY. Good point. There are shysters selling far too many products that are deceptive. Folks you have to do your homework in this hobby or any other. Best Regards, George

Yeah, uh, I have a few nice Kennedys as well. I'm pretty excited about these too although the Hall of Fame coins have temporarily diverted attentions from the gold Kennedy, I think. Has anyone heard, are the plans definite? Details? Best Regards, George

Now I am predicting a 4 coin silver set to the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy half dollar. The four coin set will have a proof, a matte finish, a reverse proof, and an enhanced uncirculated edition made of silver all bearing the West Point mint mark.

For those that have Kennedy collections they would most likely buy it cause the collection wouldn't be truly complete without it. So it looks like I'll be buying it no matter what it is.

Quote: Philly is minting some prototypes, but I haven't seen anything on when or what is coming...... I would like to understand the mindset behind making clad ones by the hundreds and then destroying all of them. First I;d like to know why they would make them from clad b/c the finals are supposed to be gold and this is a much more soft/easier to mint metal than clad. So was this run just to see if they will actually be aesthetically feasible? Second, why does the mint not sell them off to collectors at a higher price? Can you imagine the money they could make if these were at auction? The money they make could go toward production of the actual gold ones to keep the cost down. I cannot see many other private businesses not taking advantage - legitimately and honestly - of n opportunity like this. I am sure there is some law they are under not to sell them. But the law could be changed, would make a lot of people happier, and it could be honest money made to keep prices lower for the gold ones.

Quote: These prototype pieces bear the dual dates, though that date configuration will not be used on any of the copper-nickel clad coins struck for collector sales. Thats disappointing

You'll have to buy the gold coin if you want a dual date.

I don't collect Kennedys and I think this will be THE set to have... I just hope it's late in the season so my Baseball HOF coin purchase CC shock will have worn off

Kennedy half is not my primary focus. However, I am very fond of Kennedy and 1964 is a significant year in history for me.... so I will be getting at least 1 of the set (not sure if I want to get the gold too or just silver set and clad set)..... Hopefully it these coins won't come until after summer..... The ATB 5ozer and other annual set that I've subscribed will be hitting me hard.

Will these coins be as hot as the HOF coins? Thoughts?
