I'm jealous! Yeah, I'm in the MS65 crowd with this one. Given it's rarity and demand which it commands, I would definitely reserve this one come selling time, with a price at least 20% above FMV. It'll sell..trust me.

This would be the highlight of any collection. I cant see this less than 65. Sure looks like a cameo proof but I'm not schooled enough on proofs from this era. So I'm going to just go with MS65PL. Big

Marvelous. Are we certain that's not a proof?

The hairlines don't help the cause but I still think it's at least 64. I bet it is a very pretty coin in hand. Congrats and good luck.

I would think so, since the fact that it's a Business Strike was mentioned in the original post. And since the OP has the slab, I suspect he already knows the grade.

I'm thinking all the hairlines and specks we see, are on the holder, and not the coin itself. The toning is nice, the die was obviously freshly polished before this coin was struck, you can really see this around Liberty's arm holding the pole. It looks incredibly well struck up. This coin looks as good as the Eliasberg example which grades at MS67 also in a PCGS holder. Sold back in 2001 at Long Beach, by Heritage for $8337.50 Wholesale is around $8K today at MS67 and there is a MS68 in NGC out there (last sold at $9200 in 2009). I'm not sure if $8K is a divorce price but I'll go with all dsfreeworlds clues and call it MS66+, with a real shot at the MS67 mark. Might have a PL designation on the holder too.

What does the TPG look at to decide? Not arguing here - just trying to learn. Me v. PGS = PR66

I've got a decision to make unless the MS63 on the slab is as good as it's going to get for this coin. The entire CCF has this at an avg grade of 64PL. The scratches are on the coin not the holder and I've been told by a hall of fame numismatist that those are die scratches not PMD. He says PCGS got it wrong but has not encouraged a resubmit. The only place I might send it is CAC. Sorry if I misled anyone, $3000 purchases in my house after I've said no to spending that amount on a week in myrtle beach can lead to divorce. Thanks the encouragement and kind words from each of you. You've justified my owning this coin after I forced my wife to read what the experts wrote. She actually thinks I know what I'm doing now which means easier investment spends in the future!

I thought your coin looked like a 64 but a strong 63 sounds fair. Seems a lock for a CAC green bean and maybe you'll hit the gold bean jackpot. I don't think PCGS gives PL designations except on Morgans. NGC might be an option since they do.
