House votes to stop using edge inscriptions on the Presidential dollars. I read an article stating that anyone else hear that information. But it didn't state if it would on the Thomas Jefferson or James Madison coins. Anyone else know information on this subject

Haven't heard that and I must say I doubt it's true. But I could be wrong.

Ya I saw that article today at the book store...wonder how that will impact the proof sets with the edge inscriptions that have been already produced versus the redesigned version for the TJ and JM Dollars?

Well if that is the case both would be come highly collectible. With the rare ones probably worth more in the future. In any case it makes for an interesting collection to have all of them.

I seriously doubt they could change anything for 2007 this late in the year. Plus, I do not think the House could do this by itself- the Senate would need to vote as well.

I agree with BioKemist6. The Jeffersons are already being minted, heck, they may even be done for all we know, so they will, for sure, have the edge inscription. Also...the article doesn't say if the bill passed, just the amendment. Finally, the Senate would have to pass the same bill/amendment and the President sign it into law before anything changes.

Still...it's a step in the right direction. The inscription can stay on the edge for all I care, but the date and mint mark should be on the obverse (or the mm could be on the reverse...)

I put the majority of my coins in albums or 2x2's. The writting or numbers on the sides are lost as far as I am concerned since I can't see them anyway. I think stuff on the edge is dumb due to it will get damaged when dropped, can't see it in albums, can't see it in plastic containers from the Mint and people will just sand it off to make a new error coin for ebay.

Interesting, they just invested quite a few $$ to buy, setup, and rearrange a product line for a new machine to do the edge inscriptions.

This would mean that someone would have to admit they made a mistake and wasted money before wasting even more money & time in the future. Looks like "Ego" versus "common sense"...I wonder which will win when this comes to vote?

(edited for spelling oops)

The bill the amendment is attached to is for next years funding so it almost certainly would not kill the edge letting this year. And the way the amendment is written it not only removes the inscriptions and date from the edge, it gets rid of them entirely. Oops.
