A store near my house is offering a 1973 (might be D, I forget the mint-mark) Eisenhower dollar, apparently still sealed in Mint cellophane, for $8.50, and a shiny red 1945 (again I forgot the mint-mark ) Lincoln Cent for $2.00. Are either of these deals worth it? (They also have an 1893 $2.50 gold coin for $300, but I haven't seen the condition up close and I can't afford it.)

The real question for me would be how hard are they to get by you? You can find ones cheaper than that on ebay, but shipping may make it more expensive.

A nice 73 P Ike though would certainly be worth it. Thats about a 70 dollar coin in MS 65 if that one is. Id be less inclined to say it was worth it as a D but again would depend on condition and availability.

Most 73 Ikes from mint sets will not make MS-65. MS-62 or 63 is much more likely.

I haven't check but what is the cost of an entire 73 mint set?

You can't really go wrong buying Ike's! Then again I am a bit biased. Though in all honesty basebal21 and Conder101 are dead on. It's all about the condition. There are so few high grade 73-D specimens that it could be a steal.

The '73 mint set bids at $9.75 so one Ike is worth only a little over $4 wholesale. You can find an entire set for 10 or $11 easily enough and this would usually be a better deal.

However neither of these Ikes normally come nice so A nice MS-64+ Philly or MS-64 Denver would be OK at $8.

The best way to buy these is to look at several 1973 mint sets and buy the nicest one. It will cost only a little more and probably be much nicer than what your dealer has.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I agree, and I am biased as well.
