Hallo ! We nick-named this our Rolfy-(Harris)-Shilling as it looks as if it's got a faint extra leg. Just wondering if this is a common occurrence in these Shillings and whether it affects the value in any way ? Thanks so much and Cheers. Kindest Regards, Benni

Hi benjamina_m
Renniks Varieties has both the die cracks listed in their 2nd edition. (G to emu & Shield to emu).
It's listed as rare, I think the scale is:
Common Scarce Very Scarce Rare Very Rare Ext Rare
So to a variety collector it should be worth more than a normal 1933.
edited: to add Very Rare (missed it)

It would be pretty safe to say that it is worth at least double the normal price

Thanks Benni. I wanted to do a comparison before I got your hopes up. This one is currently on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-Austra...em3ccc0fe498The seller is asking $395.00 and has apparently declined 2 offers from one person, so if you watch it and see if it disappears, you should be able to track it down and see how much it sold for. It's a very nice find and if I could afford it, it's a coin I would be happy to add to my collection. Please let us know if you do decide to sell it. IMO, the error adds to the appeal of the coin, but some people like their coins to be clear of imperfections. The 2014 Maccas Catalogue shows these guide prices: VG - $110 F - $220 VF - $625 XF - $2500 I put your coin between F and VF, but I'm no expert. Others will be sure to chime in.

Nancy, the obverse has only 4 pearls. F grade at best unless you use grade inflation.

It grade vg+ which is $140 book value. Now in my prior post, I did say that it is worth twice book value which turns it into a $280 coin. Just be aware that if you auction it off on ebay, a $280 coin will only reach about $120

Hi Benjamina_m,
A bit late, but thought I'd throw in my opinion on your question 'does the die crack add value?'.
The die crack is interesting, and appealing to those who collect error coins, but also detracts from appeal to those that do not like errors or imperfections.
Die cracks are more common in earlier coins, and do not generally add a lot of value in early dates, unless there is something very unusual about it.
You might find an error collector interested in it, willing to pay perhaps 10 - 15% more than they would otherwise, maybe even more if they really want it. Adversely, you might find that others would pay 10 - 15% less because of the imperfection, or avoid the coin entirely.
So, in the end, it sort of balances itself out value-wise, unless you are willing to wait for the right person to buy it.
Just an opinion.
NB: I have your coin assessed at 'gVG/F' (or aF), but recognise this could be seen as a touch conservative, and would be comfortable with someone stating the coin was in 'Fine' condition, or thereabouts.
Oh, and nice coin, by the way.
Regards,

My sincerest apologies to all about previously nicknaming this 1933 Shilling of mine the Rolf Harris Shilling (ie the 3-legged Shilling). I am deeply embarrassed. Thanks again, Gina M. That said, a couple of members requested that I let them know when/if I decide to sell, said Shilling. So before I place it on ebay soon if anybody is interested in securing it, please let me know asap. I tried to contact the usernames who asked - but it does not allow me to proceed for some reason, even though I am a member. So this is letting all know, now. My number is 0458 474 331. My ebay Username is: longanimitas0088. Thanks and Cheerio, Gina
