Hi folks,

As some of you know, I am working on the 7070 type set album. I also have up to date sets of modern US circulating coins.

While working the type set, I started thinking I should try to put together a modern US type set of coins which still circulate since I should have extras of most of them.

I wanted the set to take in account when initials were added, mintmark moved, design changes, etc.

Here is the list without silver coins or wheat cents.

2000 to 2008 Sacagawea dollar
2009 to date Native American dollar
2007 to date President Dollar

1971 to 1974 and 1977 to 1979 Kennedy half dollar clad
1976 Kennedy half dollar Bicentennial Reverse
1980 to date Kennedy half dollar clad and P used for Philadelphia

1965 to 1967 Washington quarter with no mintmark
1976 Washington quarter Bicentennial Reverse
1968 to 1974 Washington quarter with mintmark obverse
1977 to 1979 Washington quarter with mintmark obverse and lower relief
1980 to 1998 Washington quarter with mintmark obverse, lower relief, and P used for Philadelphia
1999 to 2008 Washington quarter 50 States
2009 Washington quarter District of Columbia & U.S. Territories
2010 to date Washington quarter America The Beautiful

1965 to 1967 Roosevelt dime with no mintmark
1968 to 1979 Roosevelt dime with mintmark on obverse
1980 to date Roosevelt dime and P used for Philadelphia

1938 to 1942 and 1946 to 1964 Jefferson nickel with mintmark on reverse
1965 Jefferson nickel no FS initials and no mintmark for Philadelphia
1966 to 1967 Jefferson nickel FS initials added and no mintmark for Philadelphia
1968 to 1979 Jefferson nickel FS initials added and mintmark on obverse
1980 to 2003 Jefferson nickel FS initials added, mintmark on obverse, and P used for Philadelphia
2004 Jefferson nickel Indian Peace Medal
2004 Jefferson nickel Keelboat
2005 Jefferson nickel Bison
2005 Jefferson nickel Ocean View
2006 to date Jefferson nickel Facing Portrait of Jefferson

1959 to 1982 Lincoln Cent Copper
1982 to 2008 Lincoln Cent Copper-Plated Zinc
2009 Lincoln Cent Birthplace
2009 Lincoln Cent Formative Years
2009 Lincoln Cent Professional Life
2009 Lincoln Cent Presidency
2010 to date Lincoln Cent Shield

Have I missed any coins? Bear in mind, that I don't see these coins on a daily basis, since I live in England.

If I was to add the silver coins and the wheats, here are those coins:

1964 Kennedy half 90% silver
1965 to 1970 Kennedy half 40% silver
1932 to 1964 Washington quarter silver with mintmark on reverse
1946 to 1964 Roosevelt dime silver with mintmark on reverse
1942 to 1945 Jefferson nickel Wartime Silver with mintmark on reverse above the dome

1909 Lincoln Cent VDB on reverse
1909 to 1917 Lincoln Cent no VDB
1918 to 1942 and 1947 to 1958 Lincoln Cent VBD on obverse
1943 Lincoln Cent Zinc-Coated Steel
1944 to 1946 Lincoln Cent Bronze

Which does no look too bad, except for the need of having three
1909 Lincoln Cent VDB on reverse coins....one for the 7070, one for my Lincoln Wheat set, and one for this expanded type set. Right now, I only have one and this in my 7070 album.

It depends on how nit-picky you want to get over what constitutes a "design change" strictly speaking, nearly every coin has been redesigned dozens of times with very minor changes. For example, the Jefferson nickel (the series I am most familiar with) was redesigned mid-1939 to strengthen and sharpen the reverse. Then again repeatedly throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. If you're going for *every* design change, you'd be better off just doing a year set for all the coins. The relief was literally lowered a little bit every couple of years on nearly every denomination from about 1977-1995.

In terms of bigger changes, you're missing the change in 1969 when lincoln's head was shrunk for the cent. And again in 1992 with the switch from the " WAM" to the "CAM" reverse. And I think there was an incredibly slight composition change in the early 60s somewhere?

Why just build a type set though? Most of these coins are just pocket change to the average American, and it's incredibly simple to put together a *full* circulation set for everything since 1965 if you skip on the few rare varieties. You could probably do the whole thing in AU grade for marginally over face.

The Susan B. Anthony dollar still circulates, they were minted 1979-1981 and again in 1999. There is one design change in particular, the 1979-P Close date and the Narrow date. You can read about those here: https://goccf.com/t/84884

Hope this helps!
