Is that a fair question without knowing the weight of each? If the weight for both is the same then they are both 1 oz of silver. The smelter furnace won't know the difference when we get back to $40 oz silver!

The question was which one is fake? The answer has zero to do with the weight of the coin. The one on the right is clearly not real.

What it is made of is another issue. I can't see the purpose of faking a silver ASE coin with a coin with a blank with the same weight in silver. All that work and you could have just got the real thing for the price of that ounce of silver.

I would hazard a guess that it is not silver but being sold as such. The weight WOULD be a factor here.....and, also, the date is just dumb.

If you read the article, they tell you the coin is silver clad copper that is close to the weight, but not exact. Reading is fundamental.

I am still a bit befuddled that the coin shop dealer felt these were "good fakes". I am a novice and I could tell they were fake immediately. About the only person who could be fooled by these would be first time buyers...or nearly first time buyers.

Weight is very important to the question of which one is fake. Atomic weight of silver is 107.8 by volume. Weight of copper is 63.5.

Exactly....

Why anyone would go any further than just looking at it amazes me.

Hint: 1906.....ASE.....totally fake reverse

Probably a safe bet it ain't real. No further confirmation needed, but that's just me I guess

The one on the right is fake... Simply because if you know the series, the Mint never used such a font, it's totally obvious what poor imitation of what an ASE should look like. I think the Chinese could totally do better than this and make convincing fakes that would pass the eye test...
