Looking to buy a reasonably priced Fugio and found this one. Not sure on the series if this is a good buy. Completed listings are all over the map on fugios. Would this be a good buy at that price? It has some major issues, all the scratches. Also looks like a planchet flaw or it took a big hit on both sides. Is it attributed correctly?

Total novice, thank you for any help.

The clash is like a fingerprint for this variety; it's still prominent with this much wear, and what I agree are planchet flaws. Grade and corresponding value I'll leave to vermontensium and amida17.

Really odd, copied the whole link. Trying again but with less of the link. And that one appears to work.

Indeetlib is a trusted source..I have purchased many Colonials from him. His prices are fair.
What ypu are seeing here, are before struck planchet flaws and voids. Where the details grade comes in, are the rim dents and various scrapes.
I'd call this example a VG. As for price, seems fair for the variety.

Thank you very much Philadelphian, Vermontensium, and Fuzzy! Picked up my very first colonial. And off to bed as it is o-dark thirty here. Fugios are such a fascinating coin, the history behind them is amazing.

I'm surprised at how the entire obverse made it onto the reverse without any transfer to the obverse. Or was this a case of the obverse die being replaced and continuing to use the old reverse?

The earliest die states of the 21-I variety are perfect. You can see in the YOUR clash on the I reverse that it was the 21 obverse that clashed it. The quality control for Fugios was notoriously low; the dies were likely annealed to a wide range of hardnesses of the finished products. The I reverse die was softer, but still did it's damage to the 21 obverse. Look closely below the O in FUGIO and the adjacent cinquefoil, and below the final 7 and it's cinquefoil. You'll see the raised mirror-images of the "donut holes" of the centers of rings.

I knew of this coin prior to seeing this post and I had strongly considered buying this one. I think people may have been turned off by the reverse. Either way, a good pickup. Congrats and enjoy it!
