OK I am look at trying to put together a type Australian Type set I wanted to see what you guys would include or not include in the set. I know that Bigfella has a Dansco Album I want to buy at some point but I also don't know what they have included either. So I got a list of of World coin Gallery.

I have a new list in a new post down a few post.

Also there is another site I found and I am not sure if I should go off of that list.
http://www.islandnet.com/~kpolsson/...s/australia/

Or if anyone has a Excell file set up then that would be great to. But please let me know what list to go off of or what I should take off of the first or second list.
I know just like with all collecting it is really up to me but for other that have done it how is your set and what is in it.

As you say, "collect what you like". The author of the website you linked to is only interested in "circulation coins", while a lot of the commemorative coins in your list from WCG are "NCLT", only sold to collectors and not made for circulation. This is the main difference between your two lists. Not all the NCLT coins have been listed.

You've also got a few bullion coins in the list too - the kookaburras, Perth Mint equivalents to the ASE.

Also I just noticed an error in the Krause listing for one of the coins, perpetuated on the WCG list: The commemorative $1 of 2001, KM# 534, listed as "Norfolk Island Federation" has nothing to do with Norfolk Island - it's just for the "Australian Federation Centenary" and bears the Centenary logo. Ken's site describes it correctly: "Australia's Federation".

I can see where Krause might have drawn this conclusion: the logo is a stylised map of Australia with a star flying out into the Pacific, landing about where Norfolk Island ought to be. Well, more like New Caledonia, but it's a very stylised map.

Keeping in mind that some of the coins you have listed may well cost $20,000.00 - which is the price for the lowest grade 1930 penny. If you are particularly interested in pre-decimals, then you may want to add Australian sovereigns to your list? Just a suggestion. Good luck with your collecting!

Please also note and remember that 'Krause' values for Australian coins bear no relation to reality.
I have discussed this with Tom Michael, their market analyst, and he is looking into it. Some of their values quoted for Oz coins are 500% out of whack.
Many of the S/W Pacific nations' values quoted are also ridiculous. Especially Fiji and PNG.

Hi Danny.
All the 20c and 50c for 2001 were issued for circulation. However the mintages were all around the 2 million+ mark. A$7.00 is the catalogue rate for a UNC coin.

OK here is my new list of the two different list combined into one. I think almost all of these are coin from Circulation. I think the way I am going to do my type set is doing coin that were Circulated only not NCLT.
Please let me know what I should take off or add. I can't afford the Australian sovereigns, ALso I will not have to get the 1930 since I can get any penny in that time.

I note from your list of decimals that you've got the wrong year for the $1 2003 suffrage coins. There's 2 slightly different versions. The following observations also:

Fifty Cents 2002 Queen's 50th Anniv.- NCLT
Fifty Cents 2000 Millennium Year - 2 different versions - normal + Incuse Flag
One Dollar 2006 50 yrs. Australian Television - NCLT
One Dollar 2007 Sydney Harbour Bridge - NCLT

There may very well be other anomalies, these are just the ones that stood out for me. No doubt other Aussie members will be able to help compile your list. Good luck with your collection.

Hi Danny,
I hope you realise the size of the headache you are causing for Gary Burke.
He's not going to let anybody get away with having a better set of Australian 50c coins than him.
Let alone all the other 'attractive and shiny' Oz coins. It's a shame you wont be able to get the sovereigns:)
Seriously, it will be a very desirable and attractive set when finished. Best of luck.

You can also exclude the 1934/5 Victoria/Melbourne centenary florin as NCLT too, if you wish. It was Australia's only pre-decimal NCLT commemorative, and doesn't come cheap. Because it's the only one, however, it's still often included in the "type set" of florins.

Otherwise, the list looks good.

G'day Djluster,
I'm with you: NCLT are not really coins, just shiny metal, sometimes from the same place as real money, sometimes not.
