You can read portions of the book over the next few weeks on their website! Looks like a great reference on an often forgotten U.S. coin.

I know the feeling! But this one is free, at least for the on-line version, which looks to be quite complete. There will be a print edition this Spring 2014 according to the website. But having a free copy on-line is really nice for the authors to make available!

Still wanting the last 4 volumes of the color Noyes Large Cent editions - they are over $500 for all of them now. I did just pick up a bunch of older auction catalogs, I received the first of 2 large boxes yesterday. Will be going through them and selling off duplicates and ones I have no interest in on ebay and here soon.

Thanks for sharing. There's a similar, insightful article for the Canadian 20 Cent which was a 1-year type. Maybe I should have thought before selling my 1875-S 20 Cent.

Bumping this up as I checked the website today and it is available to order. Click the link in the first post and it takes you to the home page. Fairly easy to navigate and 3 payment options.

I placed my order a couple of minutes ago.

Doh, I just spent my entire book allotment this week already, Let us know how it reads and how the printing quality is Meadow View!

Afraid I will have to wait as I just picked up a heck of a large magazine collection, (Teaser, info coming) and some more early Max Mehl auction books.

I just started reading what is available at the site. Very interesting so far.

Quote:
In Jefferson's plan to create the first national coinage, the twenty-cent piece has its genesis. Among the decimal coins, Jefferson proposed that a fifth or pistereen6 denomination containing 73 grains fine silver be created. The reason for the fifth of a dollar was probably due to the use of Spanish pistareens and French livres that circulated at an approximate value of one-fifth of a Spanish milled dollar.
If only we had issued the fifth from the beginning, as originally proposed. Instead, we got the quarter (which I bear no ill will against) and a real concern if (when) the nickel goes away.

I've only gotten to page 12 since I started this afternoon.

Why I like those little flash drives. I download as many books to them. Takes up a lot less space that real books.

Yep space and weight is a real issue with my books at the moment. I just bought an old collection out of Ohio, My cousin is slowly boxing them up to ship to me, so far he is up to 15 boxes (file folder type) all heavy too! At least they can ship via Media Mail to save on postage, but I'm figuring the cost of postage, will equal the cost I paid for all the books!

My storage unit has an entire 10' wall of stacked file boxes of books, I try not to put too many books in them as they get way too heavy to lift that way.

Something to be said for the e-book world, but I still prefer to hold and caress my old books as I read them, and that old leather, book smell is as good as a new car to my nose.

Photos of coins take up a lot less space than real coins, too. Just saying.

Well said, jbuck. Sometimes digital is no substitute for the real thing.
