details look 55, but I don't see any luster....so will go 50 from the pics. Is that environmental damage around liberty's cheek/hair/ear/neck line?

Nice photos. AU 55 I'll guess. Super CBH.

AU-55 but that washed out color and apparent lack of luster makes me think that this has been cleaned.

I am not sure if it is the lighting but something about the surfaces doesn't appear completely original. AU details is what I will go with.

I agree with the surfaces not looking right. It wouldn't surprise me if PCGS slabbed it problem free though. If it is in the 55 range, there appears to be quite a bit of crud stuck in the letters around "STATES" on the reverse and a few other spots. The kind of crud that should be on a VF or maybe XF coin. Nice looking coin none the less!

I'm at AU50. The surfaces has to look better for higher AU grades.

PCGS graded the coin XF Details - Cleaning. The seller's comments were that someone had a bad day at PCGS - especially with the grade and maybe with the cleaning. Of course, he was the seller...
I bought the coin and not the holder thinking that the coin was AU as most of you thought. The details grade is still up in the air as I don't see it as cleaned, but honestly I have a problem sometimes determining that. I break coins out of slabs and don't ever slab them so I'll never know the outcome.

One of the things that made me question the originality was the patchiness of the toning. Much of the remaining toning seems to hug the devices like the eagle, stars, and reverse lettering which if a coin were cleaned would the the places where it is most likely to survive. A few members noted that the coin didn't seem to have any mint luster despite being in grade where a coin that is not darkly toned, is expected to have some. In the newer pictures, I noticed the surfaces look slightly pitted. To me, this seems to suggest a coin that might have once been considered environmentally damaged and maybe possibly a ground find. I could be wrong and maybe someone else will have a different opinion. I had thought the details would carry it into an AU but due to the lack of luster, I can understand why they called it an EF. With that said, it is not a bad looking coin.
