Found one in my dad's old collection. Looks to be VG-10. Very good shine to it; already in a 2x2. What would I get for it from a dealer?

10-15 dollars sounds about right. If it has an ''S'' under the date, its worth alot more

That really depends on condition and what they are willing to pay.

I see 1909 VDB in VG at online dealers selling from $14 to $46. But now I found one online listed as AU for $19

You may want to book mark this http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/price...icesgd.shtml also check ebay for sold values for a more real time value on coins.

A VG10 with "Very good shine to it" indicates it probably was cleaned, which would greatly reduce it's value. Most collectors don't want cleaned coins. Got a picture?

And polished. I've had a nice AU on ebay for weeks at 12.00, but no interest. If there's one thing I've learned, it that a coin is worth as much as you can get for it at the moment... and no more.

Brian.

EDIT: On a less important note, how long does it usually take mom to apply your custom avatar. I've sent it twice. Is there another step to it?

Not to hijack the thread, but @CentsPlus, Susan will get to it when she can, be patient, avatars are not her only job and she has been a little under the weather.

I don't have a custom Avatar...never really felt the need. Not to sound mean but you registered 4 days ago to this sight. Be patient. We see lots of people come and go.

In regards to your post. If you really want a quality answer to your questions photos are a must. I have 1909 VDBs that range from $5 to over $200+.

And remember that in order to answer your question, several things are important.
1. The condition of the coin
2. In what country did you buy it?
3. From who you bought it.
4. And if you bought it in 1909, possibly much less than today.
5. And since you asked what is it going for. They normally don't go anywhere. They just sort of sit in one place.

In Very Good the 1909-VDB is more like a $7-9 coin but this is a popular date and they can and have brought $10-12 in auctions although $10-12 is what should be paid for a VF-XF coin.

Yeah, I agree. A VG coin is a rather common find at a pawn shop or antique store and they move VG and better coins for $8 (list it for $9 and sell it with a 10% discount). And if you have those sad, puppy dog eyes, maybe even less. I've never bought one from a pawn shop, but I'm sure that there may be even more wiggle room over an antique store. Coin shop prices are generally higher although some dealers are very flexible about the sell price point.

Thinking back - I think I saw an AU coin at an antique store for maybe $16. Still mostly red as I recall, but I could just be recalling a vivid dream (now that's boring!).

Try this link to the 1909 VDB Lincoln Cent on USA Coin Book: http://www. (207) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com/coins/342/small-cents/lincoln-wheat-cent/1909-P/vdb/
this will show you several priced all the way to BU for sale. Full disclosure: I am atchisonbj on USA Coin Book so three of the four most recent coins posted are mine. However if you go down through the page there is a VG-8 listed at $11 and a VG-10 listed at $12.50
